Hello all.. Someone I know has been growing autos for a minute. They have a bunch of one ,two seed packs sitting, With the space available they will never grow these left overs..My question is what autos would you suggest be grown outside ? I have read that they grow bigger and longer outdoors. Any thoughts would be great..I have googled ,facebooked and put question in bottle but no joy..Thank and keep your powder dry...

Good morning and welcome to AFN @Seaweed88 !
Where is your location? Any autos will thrive outside. Doesn’t matter if it’s sativa or indica or hybrid. Sativas may have a longer calendar than indica. Give them full sun, 7 gal of soil to grow in, and some dry nutes like Dr earth or Gaia green all purpose 444 and 394 for topdress and you’ll be good. Do you know the strains your friend has? If you got some names you could google the specifics. Seedfinder.eu doesn’t have every cultivar but they have most.

Man, that’s a nice selection. So, lots of growers on here from Michigan. Outdoors any of them would do great, supposing that you planted as soon as you can, you may get two harvests out of it. Start some early and harden them off. Time it so they finish flower at the peak of sunlight and have some already hardened off so when you harvest, you’re planting a second batch. Then they’ll finish late sept, early October. That way you can grow more variety. And research the strains and save the mold resistant ones for the later batch!

Thank you. I have read that it takes longer outdoors.. Is that correct? I also am reading that pots are recommended.. Is that correct ? And if so why not plant in the ground? thank you for the help.

I would do pots, 5-7 gal or bigger. Size of plant equals size of plant in most cases until you reach a certain point where roots will never reach the side of the pot . I don’t know about length of time being different. I harvested my autos within a week of breeders recommended time. But it’s possible with longer running autos. They could go 100-120 days depending on conditions. Start the longer cycle plants first, then the faster ones.

I still am wondering why a pot? The hole can have the same substrate as the pot would and there is no outgrowing it.. It could be started before the last frost which can't be one in the hole.. Is that the reason? Gardens here go in around mothers day. Would that be the same time to set out pots? I have been checking out the outdoor grow section. Can y'all name a couple folks that I should check in the outdoor grow section..Thanks..

you can certainly do them in ground! I just think it’s more effort. In pots I can put them anywhere and if for some reason I gotta, I can move them. More convenient for me. You may get a larger plant if using other soil than native. And if it gets cold the roots will be better protected. I’ve done both. And both have plus and negative . It’s all about the work you put in. I am lazy and getting close to old so the less hard work I have to do outside my regular job of surveying the better. Sry. JeanO does monsters outside. Photos and autos. Check him out. Real cool guy and a breeder. Wild bill maybe?

if you put them out the right time of year in the UK we get shitty summers so we only have a small window but depending on your weather any of them strains will be ok and if you have a place they can not be disturbed and lots of seeds you can put them right in the ground or if you need to be more discreet as @Jpkindbud said pots work 2 anyhow enjoy your adventure my only tip would be maybe start them indoors in solo cups
