Old Reviews Outgro LED

Greetings. Hope everyone is well. I am new here. I was one of the lucky few to buy the M:Labs Outgro OutCo LED fixtures off eBay. Unfortunately a couple of buyers got nasty, negged the seller's feedback, and the listing went dark.

This LED grow light fixture is simply awesome. The functionality and quality are amazing. "It does grow!"

I wanted to share my blackbox analysis of the fixture. I hope that anyone lucky enough to get their hands on the fixture can benefit from this information:

===========

The custom M:Labs Outgro OutCo light fixture (as sold on eBay) is a 300 watt rated, 5 lamp LED grow light. Each lamp theoretically produces a maximum of 60 watts output (60 watts x 5 lamps = 300W rated output). Each of the 5 lamps has 48 LEDs which are divided into four channels of 12 LEDs each (48 LEDs x 5 lamps = 240 LEDs in the fixture). Disclaimer: this simplified analysis assumes 100% of the rated 300W LED driver is used for light output. Fixture design factors, and power losses from system loads, such as, cooling fans are not considered. No actual power measurements were taken.

Each of the four channels can be independently controlled:

1) Channel #1 - six red, and six orange LEDs per lamp arranged in an alternating color circular pattern.

2) Channel #2 - twelve red LEDs per lamp arranged in a square pattern with an extra LED on the outside corners.

3) Channel #3 - twelve blue/white LEDs per lamp arranged in groups of three LEDs in the four corners of a square.

4) Channel #4 - twelve blue/white LEDs per lamp arranged in groups of three LEDs on the four sides of the square.

===========

There are four push buttons on the fixture (with user facing the buttons as seen from left to right):

1) Button #1 (left most button) - Each press “Steps Down” the light intensity through each of the above combined channels.

2) Button #2 - Each press “Steps Up” the light intensity through each of the above combined channels.

3) Button #3 - Fixture Programming Button. Connect a DMX512 Controller; adjust fixture output to your liking, press and hold button number 3 for 5 seconds to save the current setting to fixture memory. The DMX512 Controller may now be disconnected. The fixture will resume the custom setting when powered off/on.

4) Button #4 (right most button) - Press and hold 2 seconds for on/off. When shut off the cooling fans continues to run until the fixture is cool and then shuts off automatically. On power failure, or initial power up the fixture resumes the last previous on-state setting.

===========

On top of the fixture near the center, there are two RJ45 female network connectors. These connectors provide the means to take full automation control of the fixture and four light channels. The connector closest to the switches is the network input connector, and the connector furthest from the switch is the output connector. Note: the fixture will only respond to the DMX512 Controller when connected correctly, check the DMX A/B polarity setting. Multiple fixtures can be daisy-chained using standard RJ45 network cables. The output connector on the last fixture must be properly terminated if automation control is used (see below). The fixture automation control complies with the RJ45 ESTA Std wiring requirements for DMX512.

Industry standard DMX512 light controllers, like those used for modern day stage lighting/concert events, can be used to control the M:Labs Outgro OutCo fixtures, and take full independent control of the four channel LEDs, including dimming function. This allows the M:Labs Outgro OutCo fixture to be seasonally optimized for vegetative or flowering plant growth. Users have infinite control over fixture color (temperature) and light intensity when using automation control.

Visible inside the fixture left fan end-cap are two status indicator LEDs. One shows system status, and the other shows network status. A blinking amber LED means the fixture is ready. When the fixture is properly connected to a DMX512 Controller the fixture will also blink an internal green LED.

===========

Materials required to use the automation features of the fixture:

1 - Standard DMX512 Controller (the DMX Show Designer DMX-192 Brand/Model was used for testing).

1 - Standard 3-Pin XLR male solderable cable connector (assembly required, see instructions below).

1 - Standard Cat5 or Cat6 network cable with standard RJ45 connectors that will be converted to a 3-Pin XLR to RJ45 patch cable (assembly required). Cut off one end of the RJ45 network cable. Solder RJ45 Pin 1 Orange/White wire, and Pin 2 Orange wire to the 3-pin male XLR connecter Data+ Pin 3. Solder RJ45 Pin 7 Brown/White wire to XLR Data- Pin 2. Solder RJ45 Pin 8 Brown wire to the 3-pin male XLR connecter Data+ Pin 1.)

1 - DMX RJ45 Terminator (assembly required). Take a 120 ohm resistor and jumper empty RJ45 Male Connector Pin 1 and Pin 2.

The Standard DMX512 Controller can be obtain on ebay, or other online shopping sites.

I can provide the needed parts (pre-assembled and ready for use), or the parts can be obtained elsewhere and DIY assembled by the end user.

I was finally able to install and measure this new light today. At full power it runs 275 watts. The fans alone are 10 watts total. the wattage varies on different level settings. This thing is insane bright. I need glasses now. I wish I knew how to get some specs on this thing. I can tell it has some UV in it for sure. I am really excited such a good price. I don't have anyone else to share the awesomeness with. It looks like the seller removed the posting. They had about 500 of these at 39.99 a pop
too good to be true or didn't know what they had?
Hey the thread about that outco grow light was wondering if you still had it had a question I found but no information on it so had a question
