Hello Everyone,

I am in the very early stages of setting up my grow room and so far, I am pleased with everything but still slightly confused.

So far my set up consists of..

Bud Box 150 x 150 x 200
Telos 0008 (which I've heard is too small for that sized tent unfortunately)
Mephisto Beans
Air Pots 20L
Bio tabs
Guanokalong Complete mix

I am ready to purchase my fans but cannot get my head around it!!

Odour control is very important to me so should I be looking at Inline filter or standerd? what is the benefit of inline? I have no cavity to extract hot air into so will that make a difference?

I like the hyperfan and i've heard good things about it but its fairly pricey. Is it worth the money or is a fan a fan. Better to buy fan/filter combos or to purchase separately?

Thanks AFN.

Hey bro

Congratulations on starting your first grow, you're starting a fun and rewarding hobby. If not a little bit perplexing from time to time.

Extraction is probably the number one thing that can make for a good grow environment and lead to success. You definitely want to have the ability to exhaust your used air out of your building. Otherwise you just build up heat and humidity to the point that you will really be fighting your temperatures.

I don't like fan filter combinations I think usually you get in okay fan matched up to a not okay filter. All of the can type filters I've used to have a certain amount of time they go before they start to smell and that's just the way they've been for me. Sew bigger filters will last longer and they'll have more surface area to filter out the particulates that give off the smell.

The minimum fan you could probably get by with would be a 4 in, but I would definitely go up to a 6in. That should be about right for that space. if you have an attic or something that you can exhaust up into your attic and then have a fan that would exhaust the air out of your attic you don't want to stay up there then that would be ideal. You may also have some type of event already leaving your building maybe an old oil furnace you took out something like that? You could even stick in on a dryer vent on the outside of your building perhaps just to get a little bit of the air out.

You need a fan speed controller one that will let you set your fan at its minimal rated RPM and its maximum rated RPM and then one setting that shuts off if your room gets too cold. That will do more to keep your temperature set up for you than about anything else you could do.

As far as inline fans go I think they are better and I use a stealth box. My stealthbox can move about twice as much air as the rest of my ventilation system is capable of moving. What that really means is I have a whole lot of surface area to grab all that particular matter as it's going through the filter.

The main reason I went to the stealthbox as it has flat carbon filters that can be replaced one by one. And usually when you're setting up your fan in your filter you want those things up high in your room and I'll tell you what you don't want to be lifting those can filters up all the time or those fans. So with the stealthbox I just open up the box and I can pull out one of those filters to replace or replace all of them if I want to.

I've been using the stealthbox about 3 years now and I haven't replaced any filters, it managed to keep my lung room free of smells and my grow room free of smells.

When I was using those can filters I would get about 1 year then they would start to stink and I would use them for another 6 months to a year then I would finally get up there and replace them.

Previously I was running a 6-inch extraction system and it was barely adequate in the summer if I had air conditioning going. Now I'm able to run without air conditioning in the summer if I want to with my new 10-inch extraction system. The benefits to oversize in your system cannot be overstated.

Wow, thank you so much my friend. Just answered all the questions I couldn't understand. Perfect. I will take all your advice and get a stelth box and was going to buy the inline phresh filter if they fit together. I noticed the combos were very cheap. My environment is cold more often than hot and very rarely above 25°c, does that make a difference? I will also create a cavity to extract to after your advice, seems important.

Thanks again @jingo

It helps being cooler to start with. Especially if you're heading into winter like I am in my area. You may find in your hot time of the year you have to shut down until you can figure out a great way of bringing your intake air in in your exhaust air out. I have recirculated inside a lung room before it's less than ideal with an air conditioner running you know like a window air conditioner in the room it worked okay.
