Nutrients ortho-silicic acid vs potassium silicate

Can't you just mix Diatomaceous earth into the mix it's readily available silicone and dirt (pun intended) cheap

you can but similar to potassium silicate, its not in its full bio-available form. they are valuable as amendments but the acid seems like supercharged ready to rock steroids. basically, as i understand it, the plant and microbes/bacteria in the soil would digest the dEarth or potassium silicate down into basically monosilicic acid. so when you buy the actual acid youre buying the pure crack baby.

im fully hydro and plan to stay that way so the idea of an eye dropper in a bubble bucket is super appealing.

I've been using DynaGro's Protekt silica product. Mostly because I can get it locally but, I have found that it raises the pH and holds it nicely. My current nutrient line drops to 5.5 when mixed. I had to test and tune but adding enough of the silica puts the pH where I want it without having to pH up or down later.

Much easier knowing the ppm and pH is stable and ready to go. Been mixing 4 gallon batches recently. Very nice mixing once and not needing to adjust.
