I guess you cant just lurk all the time and not let everyone have a chance to laugh at your sad little grow. So I will get this caught up and off and running from here. Where's here? Day 15. I will try to post a couple of threads to get this caught up and see if I can't stay on top of it from here.

Germinated them in Paper towel for around 36 hours until I saw the first signs of more than a bump showing form the seeds. Planted in 4 gallon cans (recycled) that have been converted to airpots courtesy of an old soldering iron and a great deal of bourbon. I am using a soil mix that is roughly 60% Fafard BX and 30% cocoa with an additional 10% of Perlite.

Culture wise I gave them water sparingly from the start with a ppm of around 110.. The only water I use (and will use) is aged tapwater. The local water supply runs around 7.2ph but this will not play a substantial part in my grow before I make adjustments to bring it down.

At day 6 I started to give them a VERY gently feeding (175ppm total) of Dynagro 9-3-6. Dynagro is the only thing I use, and yes there are some mighty fine fertilizers out there, but I like the KISS method. And Dynagro gets it done.

Each watering is from this point provided as needed and I try to move my watering pattern a little further from the trunk and further out into the soil. This will encourage root development and hopefully get me a nice spread quickly.

At day twelve I started doing things a bit differently with the watering build. Tap water, only half of the volume is made up of Twice brewed coffee grounds that have been allowed to age just as the water has. The coffee is a bit of a wild card as it is contingent on the type of coffee and strength of the left over grounds. But my PH has been brought down to a livable 6.5 and the ppm with Dynagro is now in the range of 250ppm.

So day 15 is the start of my further adjustment. I am now using a ppm of 325 give or take and Things are running nicely for the most part. I am a bit concerned and disappointed with the GSC but the guys at Fast Buds assured me that these should sort themselves out shortly. We shall see.

Oh, and the lights? One Mars 300 and 244 watts of e27 grow bulbs along with another 60 watts of CFL cool whites. These lights are destined to be replaced this cycle but they are the same lights I used last winter and that netted me some tasty buds. Greater lighting should give me a better weight and that means I can jar it up and not run out during the summer. I only grow for around 7 months as the summers are ferocious and I just dont want to pay for the electric.

So stand by this should be good for a laugh. Pics to follow in a subsequent post.

Happy days... Happydaze

First a few of some Fast buds WCOG from last winter. It left my head wondering around and don't even ask about the Coconut Oil Brownies!

Just realized I said nothing about lighting. I am running on a 20-4 cycle and will stick with that throughout the grow. Standard Box store timer with two outlets.

Also, I run a 4 inch cyclone fan pulling from the attic through a standard carbon filter. Works well and plenty of negative pressure. It is plugged into a LUX100 thermostat set to 78 degrees. I am going to try and stay at the upper end of the temperature range since it is winter and there will come a time when I have to supplement the heat. I keep the humidity between 40-50% via an evaporative humidifier. I need to look into a smaller unit as this one has a substantial footprint.

I have parts on order to build 4 COB light engines and that should give me a chance to retire some of this lighting back into the micro box from which it came. I will probably get it back to work as well and maybe run some photos in it. Not sure yet.

For me, cheap and recycled is a beautiful thing. The day will come when the money is there and then I can build out the grow of my dreams. But for now, you go to war with the army you have, not the army you want...

Fast Buds GSC at day 15. Not too happy about its performance thus far but I will take a wait and see approach to it. 5 days into the grow I dropped a second one due to it's lackluster growth and it has the same pattern so I guess it is the normal progression. I have been a bit spoiled and gotten used to seeing things leap out of the soil. I hope I am able to pull at least 45 grams off each one of them.

If I can get the COB parts in and they work as I am hoping I should see more than that.

My super custom modified air pots. They wont hold a candle to fabric pots but any help with air exchange in the container is a net plus.

something tells me that as my Bourbon intake increases so will the density of the holes...

You're gonna be surprised with GSC growth, trust me. Also, cool pots. I'm not into useless spending, but smartpots or airpots will give you +5-10% extra yield. So, if you're in this for a long run (I hope you are))) invest in them. We, soil growers need to show those hydro monsters that we can yield :)

I just got my fabric pots in the mail. Too late for this run but the next one will be in 5 gallon fabric. Probably gonna grow 3 Northern Lights. I love what I got from them last year and the quality was certainly there. I unfortunately had to throw all of it in the Magic Butter machine due to the domestic problems. But the brownies were very, very fun.

I love growing in soils. For one thing it is much more forgiving of mistakes in culture. It is also a much more hands off type of growing. The yields may be slightly less than a good hydro setup, but with a careful hand I think the end results are well worth the work.

Now back to the coffee...

So its day 17 and the girls are steadily picking up steam. Looking forward to January!
