Lighting Off the Shelf Screw in LED Bulbs as a Viable Alternative

Those would most likely be what pop22 was mentioning, thanks for pointing that out, looks pretty sweet

And ive seen those other panels as well, which are another viable option.

Needless to say we have plenty of options now a days for lights for our grows.

Here is my first diy light. It's not quite finished. But it will be 21x14w Hyperikon bulbs. $100 build roughly.

I think the board will be more than enough light for the space. Don't forget their recommendations are for photo period plants and not autos which get nearly twice the light hours per day.

@BigSm0, I just wanted you to know that you were absolutely correct about the QB. Granted, I'm only a week into my grow, but I had to dial down the intensity of my board to prevent it from frying everything underneath it with photons.

I guess I'll have to build another small cabinet to run some experiments in. I'm sure the wife will just LOVE that.

I was doing some research for my veg/clone box and stumbled across some micro grow folks using the E26 base LED for there grows and decided to go that route to go along with a extra snapon work light I had. I am very pleased with how well the setup worked for my 2x3x4 veg box.

I just started my own e23 base bulb build!
Teh Wife and I were in a local discount store and they were basically giving bulbs away for free. The bulbs were $0.99 US each but if you bought 10 bulbs they would give you store credit worth $9.90!! I had been walking by this display for weeks. They had 40 w, 60 w bulbs and 65 w floods all were 2.7k. Well yesterday I came across some 5k flood bulbs so I bought all they had, 25 bulbs. Total cost to me $4.96! There was a limit of twenty for the refund. So I replace 8 23 w CFL with 10 9 w LED, Similar amount of light, at least enough for my purposes, half the wattage and 1/4 the heat. I'll snap a picture later.

I was going to do a nice COB build for my veg and I am so glad I found the micro growers journals saved me a ton of money and work perfect for veg. I used CFL for my first grow and pulled 4.5 Oz from a Auto Seeds Berry Ryder I just got tired of adjusting the fixture every other day for the optimum light. Went to Mars 300s then converted those cases to cxa2530s and then to a custom aluminum frame for better spread. I have about a week or 2 left on my cabinet grow and after that I think I am going to swap out the cxa2530s for clu048 1212 with new meanwell dim-able drivers for the flower space. Only thing I might add to the veg box is 2 to 4 more bulbs either in 5k or I may order some 6500k to fill out the whole area a little better. Cant wait to see the pics of the new setup because it excites me seeing other peoples tinker/diy projects just as much as doing my own lol.

Here are the bulbs I bought. The actual bulb part was glass. I used a big 65 gal trash bin and safety goggles, tapped it with a heavy screw driver. After banging it a bit I was able to clean most of the glass shards. I should be able to really clean all the glass bits by removing the silicone glue. Messy and a bit fiddly but well worth it.
