Hi guys.

Long time lurker here and new grower. I have a quick question.

I've done 1 outdoor grow which worked amazingly and was done on a whim with no research. Once it started to work I read more and am now in my second indoor grow.

I'm growinh in soil using a hps 125w and also a 125w cfl (swap both blue to red when needed). So I grew 3 plants under these bulbs last time. I know it's probably too many plants under these bulbs but I wanted as many plants as possible to learn from growing each. So that if I killed one I still had 2 etc. I also wanted to test different yield increasing methods etc without killing them.

I just wondering now...... what's the ideal number of plants under these lights?? Sadly 1 of my 3 seeds didn't germinate and I have 2 seedlings now. Am I best going with just these two and seeing if that alone works better to increase yield?? Any advice welcome.

Thanks

I would say two at the most and make sure they are a shorter strain that isn't too bushy. If they are too dense with leaves then aggressively tuck the leafs so the sides can grow above towards the light and above the growth. You have to factor in the size height or look into some LST techniques if you are brave enough on your second grow. You need to pick your strain carefully if you choose not to train them. Can you add more cfl's? I would stuff as many as I could in there as long as heat isn't an issue. I am really thinking that setup is more of a 1 plant type and picking the strain is very important. It's just a smaller light source so I am guessing the space is smaller also.

Space really isn't an issue. And the reason I don't buy more cfl's as I'm getting work done on the house in a few months and will have to stop growing for a while. After that I plan on upgrading my hps lights.

I don't think I'm confident for lst but I am training the plants for even canopy etc.

Think I'll stick to the two. Growing girlscout cookies right now FYI

Thanks fot the help. Appreciate it

Sounds good! I wasn't too keen on doing LST with an auto, I have done them with photo periods because of the recovery time they have as opposed to an auto. I just aggressively tuck leaves to the point I snap a few off but it works. Have a great grow! Oh and here you go:slap: for your journey.

Yeah, I agree...two at the most, autos do great with LST, start gently around day 18-20, some even start before. Just bend a little the main stem to one side and another and then start pulling them down with strings or pipe cleaners, at that stage the stems are like rubber and don't snap easily, but do it gently anyway

Just pulling the main stem so the top is lower than the others makes most of the difference, just doing that one. Consider cantilevering the base of the plant in the direction opposite the top will be pulled (before you pull the top). I don't know if the plant can uproot but it feels that way.
