Hi folks. I have a chest of drawers being modified for me (94cm tall x 75cm wide x 40cm deep). It is having 2 cfls installed (6500 lumens each) with timers and on yo-yo hangers, a 4inch can filter and 2 permanent fans and 2 temperature controlled fans. I am going to grow using soil. The chest of drawers will have a circuit breaker installed for electrical safety.

My main concern at the moment is the smell during flowering and am considering either some Just Feminized Auto Skuntberrys or some Sweet Seeds Cream Caramels. My understanding is that the Auto Skunkberrys are one of the better strains for stealth growing as the odour is not to pungent. I will use an Ona Block when the smell becomes an issue.

Your comments on my set up and planned beans would be appreciated (especially from those who have used a similar system). Thanks in advance...

:peace:

No beans purchased yet and the cabinet will only be ready in a couple of weeks. I am going to use soil and I have also heard good reports of the Cream Caramels. I live a terraced house in London so odours are always going to be an issue - advice on this is what I am looking for before committing to the strain to use. I grew a few low-ryders outdoors last year and the smell was just too much - fortunately my neighbours are not too inquisitive but some of their visitors probably wondered what the smell was on a hot day with high air pressure! My philosophy is what I do at home is fine as long as it does not upset others, hence the odour concerns.

Welcome to the forum. I've not personally used ONA but I understand it' pretty effective. But the only sure fire way to stop the odors is with a carbon filter. But given your small setup and need to be stealth that may not be practical for you. One strain I've grown that had little smell is the Snowryder from Short Stuff.

When you're ready to start your grow I'd suggest you post it up in the New Growers forum. I moderate it along with Joe Dirt and Jackal. We'll be more than happy to help you along and answer any questions you might have.

You didn't say where you will have your cabinet. As long as you keep it away from an exterior door there shouldn't be any problem. There will always be some oder especially during flower. If you toke on the buds that will smell far more than the plants.I would keep it in a bedroom with the door shut as much as possible.Keep some air fresheners going and hope for the best.

Thanks - the cabinet will have a carbon filter and will be well away from the door. I will use the new growers forum once the cabinet arrives. I will investigate the Snowryders - all strain comments are appreciated.

I just finished my first "stealth" grow it was a himilayan blue diesel and by the first week of flower it was stinking up everything. I tried ONA blocks and it just left everything smelling like air freshner and weed then I got some of that Gonzo volcanic rock stuff that's supposed to eliminate odors, it didn't work at all I could still smell it easily when first coming in the house. What I had to do to control the odor to one room was put it in a closet with a carbon filter. I ended up getting one of them foothill carbon filters for $115 with the fan attached and it works great.

Your gonna wanna switch out the 6500k for 2700k when your ladies are done with vegetation. I just switched to CFL myself, i gotta order some 42 watters online i cant find em where i live , ive checked (walmart, home depot, lowes, plus my grow guy) Good luck!

Ok good your carbon filter should do the job.just disregard the bullshit that i told you, hope your grow turns out great.

Thanks - there are 2 inline exhaust fans sucking the air through the filter which I expect to ensure all air is expelled through the carbon filter. One is wired to be constantly on and the other is temp controlled. The ducting begins next to the lights to help with temperature control and the thermostat controlling the additional intake and exhaust fans will be mounted at about 50% of the internal vertical height. I can modify more if needed but and going to go with this design unless I encounter problems during flowering. I had been planning on using dual spectrum lights but will do some more research...
