hey guys n gals new to the site wasn't aware about the etiquette hope y'all can help us out, me n a buddys first grow thought itd be a nice summer hobby to do on our downtime, well so far we have not seen any growth and its been 2 weeks since we dropped em in the pots.
we used: 2 auto pounders
1 nl x nl
1 black destroyer (bought from seaofseeds)
we found a nice secluded spot planned for a guerilla, at first we thought about doing them directly in the ground but thought itd be easier to manage in pots, got 4 lrg pot/buckets fenced them in and we were rdy to go.. seeds germinated properly and we put them in 2 weeks ago, we flushed the soil (normal miracle grow potting soil) popped em in and didnt water but a few days in we were getting thunder storms/torrential downpour so we covered them with plastic for a few days a little water leaked thru and rain was happening pretty much every other day so for a about a week we kept on re wrapping n hoping it wouldnt drown the seeds.. like i said its been almost 2 weeks and no growth... were kinda let down were just looking for a plausible miss step we took so we dont do the same mistake again.

so now fast forward to this past weekend we were getting agitated and thought we would try to germ. 2 and start them indoors in plastic cups (holes drilled on bottom) to see some initial growth and eventually transplant them, we dropped the seeds on sunday covered them w/ plastic & havent watered or anything and nothing so far... are our seeds duds.. are we duds? idk jsut need some adivce/guidance please & thank you ppl

Do not give up on them make sure they stay damp enough to pop them. Sunday give a few more days since you went directly to soil. Hopefully you did not put them to deep give them another full day. How far down did you plant them?

welcome nj. this should probably be in the new growers section, it will get more looks. my advice ditch the MG soil. way too strong for most autos. check out the soil and fert section for help on choosing. good luck too you and check out the whole forum. chances are someone had the same problem and have a solid answer. it worked for me . peace

Welcome to AFN, nj!:toke: Sounds like a rough start, Brother, but you're already getting some great advise.
Lots of folks use the paper towel method to germinate, or soak in water first for 12 to 24 hours. Your soil needs to stay damp, but not waterlogged.
Amen to samurai, MG might be a bit hot (too much nitrogen) for autos, they can be a little sensitive.
Hopefully your new seeds will pop, give 'em some time and tlc.
:goodluck:,

Cheap plain potting soil is better than MG soil and it doesn't need to be flushed! The flushing may have made all the little fertilizer balls in the MG at the top to release at once. I would say it was the storms that did those first two in tho.

Welcome sour,

you should get all the help you need here. Check out the stickies and make the search function your friend. Never quit. Together we can make fat harvests.

Hi njsour :)
Welcome to the forums at AFN :welcome:

Good to have you on board with us,We will be sure to lend a hand and get you going.

Here's a nice germination thread by Ronin, I think you will find it useful, just click the link - Germination guide

Germination can be a little tricky until you get used to the needs of your seeds.

I usually germ mine at 24C you can go a few degrees up and down of this but 24C is what I like.

I always soak the seeds for 12-24 hours any that are still floating after 24 hours are not making the cut as they are imature/hollow.

Often the seeds will show a little root after this initial soaking, but some seeds have a harder than usual seed shell and may take a little longer as Waxi pointed out.

My seeds go in to rooit/root riot horticultural sponges and I get great results every time, putting straight into soil works too, just be careful not to over water, heavily watered soil can also be a little cool, so keep in a warm (not overly hot) place, againn 24 C is good.

To keep my temps at my optimal range I use a rootit thermostat to keep my heated propagator at 24 C by putting the temp probe in an extra sponge which is the control sponge. You don't have to do it like this but I get consistent results.

Some people use router/modems/tv boxes etc to keep seeds at a nice warm heat, just be careful, water and electricity don't mix.

That's more advice than I normally give in an intro lol from now on pop your questions in your journal and some one will swing by to lend a hand.

I would also splash out on some canna targeted soil rather than use miracle grow.

For seedling use a light mix a 20 liter bag will do and can be used each time you germinate some seeds (a soil that is too high in nutes can burn a seedling) and you can get a stronger soil for the grow or use a light mix if you want to be more in control of your nutrient feed program.

If your seeds do turn out to be duds, I'm sure recommendations will be made by fellow members from reputable seed banks that will ship to your part of the world.

Looking forwards to your journal, see you in the forums

I've had luck with cheap jiffy pucks. It's so hot out that I have been keeping them outside to get accustomed and then transplant in the final container. Be careful of those hot Temps outside. Outside is hard to control so it's harder to expect 100% success unless they are in your yard. Don't give up jedi
