Damn I just broke my main stalk near the top. I just used duck tape.... is it going to die?

If it didn't break clean off, then no, it won't necessarily die. That's what the folks here call supercropping

Also, any branches lower will now grow taller (just like topping does) and will compete with each other to become the new main cola.

How far up did you break It? And was it a snap and a break or just bent over? If it's just bent then yea it's like supercroping and could help or hurt the plant. If it's snapped and air got into it the vegetation above will die but your lower growth won't. I have accidentally topped my plants a few times and sometimes it works out sometimes not.

It was just under the top node. I guess an accidental topping. I was pulling it down easy training it and it snapped about 3/4 off.

It looks like you actually tore the branch nearly off but it’s hard to see in burple. If that’s what happened then yeah cut it off. Make a clean cut, at an angle, with some clippers just below the tear so it heals nicely.
