New Grower - I really need some advice (is my set up okay?)

Howdy mate . FN Queensland , Way up the top , For lights check this out - www.cutter.com.au - well worth you time , they even have kits . There are a lot of very good organic nutrients available here in Australia . Canna Terra I can't advise you there as I make my own soil . Room size if you can go a bit bigger it will help if you grow bigger auto strains . In the photo is 2 autos that I know will take up a lot more room [ 4 weeks old ]. The room is 1.2 x 1.3 x 1.8 - Up here a aircon a and dehumidifier are a most . For sourcing products here in Australia, just let me know View attachment 1302433

G'day mate. Funnily enough I used to work up at Bamaga! Stoked to see a fellow country man with such lovely looking ladies. I am not really after something massive as I really smoke a very limited amount (I am talking like a puff a night to put me to sleep and then maybe a joint every second weekend - my last ounce lasted about 6 months or so) and don't want to be having anything too glaring and big if people come over. I might try to push it up to 90x90x180 if I can but with more size, more/bigger plants, looks like more lighting and more money. Thinking I might start small and build up so I don't go straight into the deep end.

Will definitely shoot you a message to pick your brain if I have questions!

Yes, do not screw with ratios, just dilute the final mix to the ppm/EC that you want, and once you have your ppm, do the final adjustment of pH. And always, as @Mañ'O'Green said, mix in the order suggested by the manufacturer. If you don't you could precipitate some of the ingredients and end up with an unbalanced nute mix.

I have had lockout pretty much every time I went much over ~500ppm/1000EC. There are far more locked out plants in the infirmary than there are hungry ones.

Good luck with it. :pighug:
Heck yes. Thanks mate. This is all going in my little book of research and knowledge. Could you recommend the PPM/EC reader you use?

This is the EC/PPM meter I use:

Amazon product

It can be calibrated, and works very well. You don't need to spend a pile of money on PPM/EC measurement.

You also need a pH meter, do you already have one? The pH drops can help, but a digital meter is far easier to read.

I have one of those with a stick on it, that you stick into the ground/water and it has a dial on top. Was like $20. Bit risky? Thanks for the help legend!!

IMO buy a good quality meter once. I've had so many cheap meters that are incredibly inaccurate and fail quickly. Check out Apera Instruments. They make a really high quality meter for reasonable price

Roger that. I figured as much, I bought that meter when I accidentally grew buds in my compost so I wasn't really trying to get smokeable buds (was just interested in the growing of the plant) and was just playing around and getting a feel for things. But now that I am getting more serious, stepping it up is the smart thing to do. Will defs check out this one. Thanks so much for your help!

Worse than a bit IMO. Just buy an Apera PH60, and make or buy storage solution. Since this is new to you, I will make a few suggestions:

- NEVER let the glass sensor dry out. It should either be in the cap immersed in storage solution, in the solution being tested, or on the way between the two. The safest practice is to never sit it down unless it is capped - not strictly necessary, but it lowers the risk of it being forgotten uncapped.

- NEVER clean the glass probe by touching it with anything. Rinsing it with distilled water before capping for storage is a good idea, especially if it is going to be stored for multiple days.

- change storage solution as required to keep it clean, and use fresh solution for longer term storage. The cheapest option is to buy lab grade KCL and make your own storage solution. I have been using 3molar KCL to store my PH60 for over a year and the meter has not even required calibration yet. Recipes for mixing 3 molar are on line.

Shoot me questions if I can help get you sorted.:pighug:

You are a god amongst men! Thank you for the tips, I would have been bamboozled trying to figure this out otherwise. Will drop you a DM if I have any other questions about this. Cheers n beers.

No god here mate, just an older bugger looking to give as much as I have received at AFN. My background in biology helps me with some of this stuff, so I am lucky to be able to pass a few lessons on.

Good luck getting set up, try to do it close to right the first time because you are going to have some serious fun, so it won't be long before you start figuring out how do do stuff "better". :pighug:
