I am just over 2 weeks into my first grow and I am already starting to think about how I would like to do my second grow and I have a few questions that I hope you knowledgeable grow gurus can help me out with.

Currently I am using FF Happy Frog. I am using a 96x3 Mars Hydro Reflector LED with 4-6 23w 5000K CFL's for additional lighting. I am using 3 gal. pots which have a lot of good drainage in the bottom and lower sides.

For my second grow, I am thinking of using a mix of Ocean Forest with Happy Frog for the majority of the pot but placing a mix of Happy Frog and Light Warrior about 4-6 inches down and center with Light Warrior as the top 2-3 inches of the pot. I plan on using about 30% perlite mixed in as well with all the soils. What do you think about this?

The reason I want to do this is for the babies and their roots. In my current first grow, I placed the seeds, once germinated into the Happy Frog. They are alive and doing well but I did notice that they were slow to start as well as some leaves were deformed which to me could possibly be that the soil was a bit too hot for them.

In regards to the roots. I would like to also give them a boost once they have germinated and I have placed them in the soil. What kind of additives or nutrients can I give them from the beginning to help the roots really bulk up and be strong?

Within the 2 weeks of my grow, I have seen 2 gnats. 1 a week ago and 1 last night. I am keeping my eye on the plants and plan to take action if I see more. What do you recommend that I add to the soil from the beginning to stop this from happening again?

Thanks for any feedback. Comments, suggestions are very welcome.

What you have planned for your second grow sounds good. The best thing for roots is to add mycorrizae to your soil before you put the seed in.This is a root enhancer and will give you a great root system and therefor a much healthier plant. As far as the gnats I hang a sticky pest strip near the plants and this seems to work.

Thanks Namvet! I appreciate the feedback!
