well what i am after is the experience you guys have, i live in south africa, durban and it gets really hot in the summer 30+ on alot of days and the relative humidity is high like 80% plus throughout the summer which is coming up, i purchased a jardin 120X120X200 tent , now bear in mind south africa, and it has one hydroponic store with 4 branches but are very limited in stuff like fans and filters etc, so i decided to purchase from the uk, what would be the ideal fan and can filter for extraction to buy and also what fan for the intake of air ? i am using led lights and am not too worried about temps just concerned in getting the right ventilation done. i know they say calculate the volume of tent and get fans for that etc but i would rather see what tried and tested methods are best.. please advise , much appreciated :peace:

Im not too sure of the CfM of the fan you need but regardless of the intake you have if its pulling in hot air then intake isnt the anserw!! Have you thought about a potable AC unit it would certainly help with the heat and as for the humidity get yourself a de-humidifier it will help in the long run :peace: Si

ambient temp will be the issue leds your brave you need 4 boards at least to light that area or a 1000w hps in an air cooled hood would be a better option

fan id go for a 5" high pressure with around 200cfm should be plenty min would be about 150cfm intake depends if you need it if its next to a window the intake ports will work fine. Any quality 5"filter will be fine (ive said 5" as theres less pressure drop over a longer distance vs 4")
and no its not tried and tested as i run a grow room not a tent

thanks si, i do have an aircon in that room so am able to manage very hot days and yeah ive ordered a dehumidifier just waiting on delivery..
hey agito do u mean that if i have a good enough fan hooked up to filter sucking air out the tent then i dont need a vent fan blowing air inside the tent if its near a window? so there would be enough suction caused by the 1 fan to pull air in through the vent ports on its own ? and yeah it is gona be next to a window:)

long as the fresh co2 is coming from an open window your Ok just go for the bigger fan :)

Thats what i have going my fan is strong enougth to pull air into my tent also :peace: Si

I agree, you shouldn't need an intake fan. The exhaust fan will create a negative pressure in the tent and will suck plenty of air through a passive intake opening. LEDs shouldn't raise the ambient temperature a whole lot and since your room has an A/C unit, you should be able to vent back into the room. If you were running HPS I would suggest venting outdoors to keep that hot air out of your room. I think a 4" fan should be sufficient. I run a grow box with 3 LED panels about the same size as your tent and use a 4" fan operating at 165 cfm. That's powerful enough to turn the air over almost 3.5 times a minute which is more than sufficient. Just keep the duct run between the filter and fan short and you should be fine with something about that size.

Fantastic! :bong:lol ok one more thing, the website i am looking at doing a buy from is hg-hydroponics and they have quite a few diff style fans and carbon filters can any of you recommend which fan and filter i buy? please guys they do not have any description of cfm only what volume of air the fan can do.. not too worried about the price but would rather go for a medium option, here is a link below

oh and one last thing sorry, what about the dark period, how would i be able to keep those passive vents open and not get any light in ? once i have overcome these minor issues i will have peace of mind which i owe to you guys, too bad u not here in SA would have sent over some herb :toke:

is it not 104 cfm room - pressure drop from filter and vents and duct so 150 is lucky to do it 1-1.5 per min which is still optimal (im not that up with ventilation)
4" ruk with a rhino filter would be fine if its quiet enough
