Hi everybody,

This year I have grown my very first weed plant(s).

I did this to see if weed can help me with my sleeping problems.

In a few days I'll harvest my Bubba Kush auto (see grow report in signature) and I also have some 'Dutch Automatic'.

From these plants I'd like to make a tincture.

I've browsed the internet looking for some recipes and also found a few, but I still have questions.

I already got 96% alcohol and since I'm leaving on a 17 days holiday the 18th og August, I'm going for the cold method.

So far so good, but here's where I'm stuck (already). ;-)

I've got a few questions.

I'm aiming for a narcotic high (or rather stone)

1. What parts of the plants can I use?
2. Does the weed have to be very dry or just a bit? I've read that making a tincture from undried weed isn't a good idea.
3. Since I'm leaving on a holiday the 18th of August, I wont have enough time to 'cure' after drying. Since curing is all about taste while smoking (I think?) This isn't an important issue for making tinctures, or is it?
4. Can I dry the weed using an oven? Using low temperatures and then increasing the temp for decarboxylation. Or should I dry 'naturally?

Phwoew, this is it for now. I really hope someone with experience in making tinctures can help me out and if possible give me some good advice.

1. All of it, although stems and stalks the least productive, you decide.
2. Dry as a bone.
3. Don't worry about too much cure. You just want the oil.
4. No. Never. Natural every time.

If you're using the Rick Simpson method ... or QWISO as we call it in the UK ... you'll want to freeze your trim after drying it (or everything you want to extract the oils from) and use the highest purity alcohol you can find.

If you have sleeping problems, then the time of harvest of your plant will have a big significance ... the later you harvest, the bigger the sleeping pill you're growing. This is because the plant slowly converts THC to CBD and CBN as it's flowering window closes. These contain the 'narcotic' qualities you seek.

Thx guys!

However, I don't think I'll use the Rick Simpson/ QWISO method. 1st, I'm not sure if I'll find Isopropyl alcohol.
2nd It seems a bit more time consuming and more laborious than just drying the plant, decarb and then letting her be soaked in natural alcohol for a month or so.

Or is there A BIG difference in the end result?
Maybe than I'll consider it then.

I've got some 96% ethyl alcohol from a local supermarket, I think I'll go with the soaking and waiting method :)

I've got another question however.

Do I have to flush the plants. Since flushing is done for taste while smoking, maybe I can stil give her some nutes in the following days?

That's my favorite way, the cold method, I like to get every little bit I can from the plant. Some people don't like the long soak because you get chlorophyll and waxes...the taste is not as "clean" but the chlorophyll has benefits
"Chlorophyll benefits include helping fight cancer, improving liver detoxification, speeding up wound healing, improving digestion and weight control, and protecting skin health. The primary reasonchlorophyll is considered a superfood is because of its strong antioxidant and anticancer effects.."

As for flushing...there is debate about this @pop22 wrote a nice piece Flushing: The Myth that won't Die

Thank you for bringing up my thread!

Flushes are pure nonsense, as you now know.

What I always thought. When I'm eating the vegetables from my garden, I'm not constantly thinking "oh I forgot I gave these tomatoes nutes yesterday..." ;-)
