- Best Coast Genetics Lake Tahoe photo/ 100% germination, decent yield, great taste and stone
Some background - This is my 2nd grow. Last years effort included 6 strains, and a mostly unrewarded attempt at outdoor autoflower. Outdoor and in containers, some of my containers were not adequate. I had some budworms and some bud rot, so got to make observations of those and some experience in trying to stave them off. I knocked down yield sufficient to carry me through the next 2 grow seasons, after throwing a lot over my shoulder from worm occupation or rot. So, generate surplus - check.
This year, I was less inclined to have as many plants as the first go to begin with, and coping with my second round of Corona (not the twist of lime kind, the bad one) right when I needed to be getting things done. I got out 2 plants after getting back on my feet, those are Lake Tahoe by Best Coast Genetics. Later still, I was gifted a Durban Poison start that had been neglected, rootbound and very dry without sufficient light. It returned to a more healthy state after planting. For all 3, I dug a hole into the native Roark sandy loam of my home and filled that with last years container soil which was Miracle-Gro garden soil. Old roots and all, and having the goal of concentrating on the health of the plants.
This year I discovered that the Lake Tahoe has a pheno which I was yet unaware of after growing 2 of them last year. The plant structure is largely the same, just shorter and the buds grow kind of egg shaped. According to my better half (her nose works so good she can smell into the future) the short pheno has a different aroma, the difference is just barely discernable to me.
The growing season here has been just beautiful, the normally high humidity has been lower than usual all summer. The rains came in the right amounts and frequency to really help things along. There is almost always air moving here on the prairie where there's nothing to stop it. I use Southern Ag 20-20-20 in veg and Miracle-Gro Bloom formula 10-30-10 or 15-52-15 in flower. I use Southern Ag Garden Friendly Fungicide, BT, and Neem. A special shout out to Rot Block, which significantly protected last years yield. I haven't had to do a thing this year for rot or mildew, which just blows my mind.
I did spot 2 wee little worms one evening a few weeks ago. Not like last years green meanies, these were like 1/16th in. small and white/off white. My impulsivity enhanced by 2 Miller High Life's, I immediately mixed a hot overdosed batch of Neem and basted all 3 plants. The next day I found 1 of the more familiar green ones of the "inch" variety, provoking me to hit them all with BT. 2 days after first spotting worms, I found a young mantis giving the bigger Tahoe a good going over. A couple days later it turned up in the Durban. I haven't seen any worms since first spotting them, I look things over twice a day. No causes for serious concern that I can find, and def less than 30 days to go, maybe much less. The Durban I think needs all the time I can buy it, the Tahoes await only a kiss of amber on the buds and down they'll come. I burned calyxes with my rash neeming fit, and so lost some bud sites. I console myself that the resources that would have built those buds just went to fatten existing ones.
