A reflector can be formed outta just an aluminum pie plate....according to what part of the planet you are on, a ph meter can be important...those who happen to be over good aquafers or on (good) well water would only need to check water occassionally...like me...I use well water from a deep well ....ph runs 6.5-6.8 alwasys so I seldom check....of course that is not the norm for most.
Most light energy means more grow energy....means more heat to deal with....etc etc etc

The things about the CFLs is that you want to get the light spread arouond really well, multiple lights can do this for you. I am not a CFL user yet ;-)! Check out noods cream caramel, easy ryder grow. He is the CFL master, hold on I'll get you a link
Ah, I see, thanks. You're thinking of switching or trying out CFL as well? I think you meant this thread right: LINK First post looks promising haha, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I think I'm gonna visit my local hardware store and check what they have. It's just that where I live the stores don't have nearly the wide assortment most of you guys have, but I'll look for something that reflects, like you said it can even be a pie plate haha. As for the pH, I live in an area with very clean water, but I might just use bottled water to be sure. I don't need ventilation for 4x 26w CFL lights, or do I?

EDIT: This looks like a good solution as well: LINK

Welcome to the New Growers forum. I can see that you've already gotten some good information, particularly regarding your lights and the importance of monitoring your pH.

The smell won't get too strong until the plants get into full flower, around week 5 or 6, so yes, you can delay the purchase of the fan and filter for a few weeks.

Thanks again :) It's quite an interesting read, and a nice fellow.

Another question about the ventilation, if it's mainly for the smell (the CFL's don't really put out much heat as far as I read) I can buy a filter and fan later, when they begin to bloom right? This makes me spread my budget out over a longer period, which I would like haha

Yeah, you guys are awesome! About the pH, I did get some mixed responses, at least I'm not sure if I'm OK for now if I buy the cheap, simple ones.

I do have an update on the lamps as well, apparently in my country we don't use E26 bulbs, we use E27 bulbs.. The ones I found in my hardware store were 23W CFL Warm White, they didn't have Soft White. They did have cool white though, but I'd like to buy only four lamps for now, instead of both in the blue and red spectrum, but I'm not sure if Warm White is recommended if I only use those. Or can I mix Cool White and Warm White and place them in this order WCWW.

I have grown CFL for a few years now. I believe 100 watts might be anemic. I just calc'd all mine out and I am sitting at around 650 true watts. You might want to step it up, if possible. Good luck and all the best!

Thanks, I've been looking around a bit more and decided to go for more watts. I guess I can spend a bit more :) But I did run into a inconvenient problem:

So I just got a small little big reply from 1000bulbs; I can't use their bulbs. In the Netherlands we use 220-240 voltage bulbs, 1000bulbs only have 120v bulbs. If anyone knows a good spot to get CFL bulbs in Europe, please let me know. The max Watt they sell in my hardware stores is 23W, and they cost 8 Euro (about 10 Dollars) each.. Now imagine buying at least six 2700K and six 6500K bulbs for that price, and still only having the minimum Watts. So I'm really starting to think I should just get an HPS light... Which would really suck because I was really hoping to grow with CFLs.

(I crossposted this from the T5/CFL thread).
