I never studied plant biology at university, so I desided to read botany at BIO200 level on my own. Most people won't read a complete textbook, I understand that. People doing that are probably knowledge hundgry, crazy academics like my self. However the shorter works are very useful for everyone who remember their basic knowledge in chemistry and biology.

Summary of a danish review paper on plant hormones in growth and development.

SUMMARY:
Plant hormones are low-molecular, organic compunds synthesised in very small amounts by plants. They are essential for plant growth and development.

There are three main groups of plant hormones:

Auxins
Auxins are derivatives of the amino acid tryptophan. They play an essential role in vegetative growth, as they stimulate cell stretching and movement towards the light source. Auxins are produced in the growth tips.

Gibberillins
Gibberillins are tetracyclic diterpenoids. The gibberellins play an important role in regulation of development.

Cytokines
Cytokines are prurine compunds, typically derived from adenine with a substitution in the N6-position. Cytokines are produced in the root system and transported to the green tissues, as well as in the growth tips.

In addition, plants have a stress hormone called abscisic acid. Abscincic acid is induced by factors like drought, high salt and sub zero temperatures.
