It would seem I am more consistently growing smaller plants rather than larger. This year I really want to focus on getting more consistent with the girls and their sizes. So going forward I am going to have to make some bigger changes. I hope Faded called it a few post ago with trying a new soil. Because I too think that may be the "root" of my problem. To further that idea, I was listening to a youtube video, "DudeGrows" featuring a guest speaker, Jordan From AFN. I'm not sure who that is here on the site , but he was very well spoken and really knows his shit.
He discussed a little bit about autoflowers, specifically the tap root and how it grows strait down and the importance of not stunting the root early. And it got me thinking that maybe, unintentionally, that is actually what I am doing.
So that brings me to my soil. Sunshine Mix#4. I know this is a great soil and works well with photoperiod plants but I think it may be the "root" of my troubles with auto's. Sunshine mix holds water incredibly well. I think to well in fact. As I have mentioned before, I water only once every 7-10 days. On day 8 is when I typically give my seedlings their 2nd water. I feed them 250ml of water that saturates about 4 inches into the soil. And this will last until day 15. Followed up with half a liter of water penetrating only 6-8 inches deep in the soil. I think with no water for the root to grow down to , I am essentially keeping it stunted in my larger pot. I am not sure how to change my water practice. I am concerned that If I add more water that I will be waiting for weeks for it to dry out in this soil. But as it is right now, the plants are only getting their first full water with runoff at day 25-30.
So I'm super excited for the next girl that I will be growing. Mark has kindly sent me the new strains that have just been released. So the first girl that is going to hit the dirt will be Dinamed Kush CBD. I normally don't smoke what I grow but this girl, this girl will be MINE ! 0.6% THC and 16% CBD, yea I'm down for that ! I'm guessing it's going to land in Canada mid to late June. So what ever soil/changes I'm going to roll with will need to be sorted out by then.
