Hey guys. So the Missus and I are out for errands today and wanted to pick up a bag of soil for her herbs and some of my veggies maybe, just a smaller bag of something good so we didn't use up all the Promix. Walmart is crap for soil mixes IMO, damn near everything is Miracle Grow and besides all the fuss about it, I am an Organic man. I did look at the MG Organic stuff but decided against it after I saw this stuff.

It was on sale at my local ACE, they have a nice nursery and garden section too. Normally $12 for 18 lbs. it was on sale for $6.99. Nice. :D
What I saw at the store was enough to sell me, but damn when I got home and read the whole bag I was stoked to try it out for some Canna!
This stuff has 12 different strains of Mykos in it. That's way more than Promix even. It lists compost in the ingredients, but there are no specifics nor are there any NPK numbers on the bag. It seems like I have made a really cool find and I will be trying it out soon. You should be able to read all the pics, but if not just ask!

And any suggestions I will take too. Like can I start seeds in this? It says feeds for two months, but like I said...no NPK listed. Thanks!

It's a bit plain to use straight out of the bag, but it looks like a great candidate for a base to a mix. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of bark fines as I get tired of digging splinters out of my hands. I'd add some mushroom compost and/or Worm Castings and lime to that potting soil. Most potting soil companies don't add much lime or compost. It's definitely got a good mix of micros in it.

Isn't plain a good thing to start Auto's in though?

I did notice there was no lime in it. I have yet to do any ph tests on it though. I also thought about trying out a mix of that and Promix and I think I will do that very soon. Thanks Piggy!

Anyone else?

Oh yeah, plain is a good thing to start autos in for sure! If the ph is balanced go for it!

If I can I will get do some test runs tonight and post the results here for more info. This stuff should be easy to find and may prove to be really good with all the Mykos.

Bump bump. :D Where's my organic and soil folks..and the old time growers?

Just curious of any advice and/or experience with this soil. Thanks fellas and ladehs.

Alright so I just ran some ph tests on the Monrovia. I did one cup straight Monro and one half and half that and Promix. I ran plain water through at ph of about 7.1 and it came out lowwwww. High 4s for the straight soil and low 5s with half Promix.

I sorta expected this, and the mix contains no lime at all so it obviously must be amended for much of any good use with some lime. I will go scoop some up later this afternoon if I can and get that mixed in and run some more tests. I want to get it raised up so that I can try out a half and half mix and a straight Monrovia soil test on some Autos if I can get it worked out in time. I don't have much time to get started on my last Indoor before the move and all. I know lime takes time to work, but I'll try it if I can get it going in time. Either way will be able tier to it later after my plants sex in a few weeks, just probably won't be able to start in them.

That is all. Just wanted to add the ph tests.

Remember to use only POWDERED dolomite. Even the little pellets are a no no. Also give it a while to break down into the soil. A couple of weeks at the least.

Good day to you Squid..
Hoping the move is a good thing for ya,
You seem really stoked.
If you don't mind me asking are you using ProMix HP or the Promix BX ?
No reason just wondering :D

I don't mind at all. I use Promix BX.

Hey Mr. Pig is it easier/faster to mix the powdered-hydrated lime up into the soil or to mix it in water and water the soil with that? Thanks.
