Harvest & Curing Miss Northern Lights nearly there?

No better sleeper than a top drawer Northern Lights soldier :smoking: I had the same intention last year but had to chop earlier than planned. Your specimen is what I hoped to see from my own, great work OF :toke: catch those zzzs
Thanks for checking in. Yeah, this was a long run. The better half may yet get annoyed that I will be tied up for the next week plus getting her in jars and getting the cure started. But at this point, the remaining details are not much negotiable. My diplomatic persuasion hat is on.

Sorry to hear that your NL grow had to be chopped early. It is a real disappointment to miss the target after the investment in time and hope that a person puts into a special grow. This strain does seem to go on, and on, and sometimes, on even further. At least mine auto'ed on schedule.

Time to get the travel trailer ready for a spring trip next month once we have our first covid shots. The second shot will be four month later here in BC. OTOH, that will leave our summer clear. Mixed blessing that.

Happy growing mate, I hope your next NL grow goes all the way. :pighug:

Love that afghani structure that's pain relief an nice sleep rolled into one she looks ready.
Thanks for checking in, as the rest of the posts show, she is mostly chopped, and a happy chop it was! :pighug:

Yes I believe she is ready for a slumber buzz. Beautiful!

:slap:
Thanks for the feedback MOG, and for the rep. Much appreciated on both counts. She is now chopped, mostly, and I will post results later. Thanks for your earlier help with the grow as well mate, you add a lot to this site.

Believe it or not mate, she is an auto, Seedsman Auto Northern Lights. She actually did her auto thing perfectly on schedule but it's been slow since then. Whatever, she produced some chunky bud. It will be interesting to see how the weigh in goes. The buds are some solid. As you know, many of the auto versions of this strain have issues with the auto switch, but I guess I got lucky. I made a quicky DIY tent for her because I did not want to bugger up her sisters with 12/12 lighting. Turned out she didn't need 12/12 after all. LMAO, had I not made her a "tent", she would likely be about six feet high and just started flowering.

As to the aroma. Bloody hell, I do not know what peeps are talking about when they say that this strain is stealthy. My wife, for the first time this grow, mentioned how the smell upstairs in the house got downright aromatic while I was trimming. I was in the basement behind two closed doors and a hallway. Good thing she was not in the same room. Tolerant lady.

I would describe the aroma as plenty strong, but very pleasant, with maybe a bit of conifer in it at this point. I have a tough time describing smells most times. At any rate, stealthy she ain't. The other problem is that many of the buds will not even come close to fitting in my grinder, not even the big grinder. A shame that.

Dry porn later, you can count on it! The macro lens setup has had more work on cannabis than everything else combined times about ten.

Thanks for checking in and for the rep mate, much appreciated.:pighug:
An auto, huh, how annoying! ... well speed isn't what defines "auto's", though some breedings seem not to focus much on speed... IMO, 12 weeks to finish is officially in photo territory, making the auto aspect pointless for indoors,... I do recall some other companies with wonky versions, but they were dubious breeders to begin with... SeedStockers lists 75 days... Seedsman says 60 = :face: ... but who knows who actually bred this version!
At least she produced and is terp-rich! Aroma sounds on point, NL and it's various versions and breeding's tend to be more or less piney-spicy, some sweeter...

Good description, piney but sweet. I will do my best to describe as she dries and cures. :pighug:

Yeah, 16 weeks is a bit much for an auto. Mind you, doing the deed with autovalves and large pots is kinda asking for a longer grow. Regardless, that Seedsman estimate of 60 days has to be classified as bs or close to it. Maybe in a solo cup at 27C and 24/0.

No matter, I knew the strain's reputation when I planted the seed. I just wanted to try the sleepy time buzz. I have been wanting to try this strain in the vape for a while now, so my eyes lit up when I got it as a freebie. Now I will have a supply.

:smoking: Good Sunday to ya OF,...

I think the breeding was just not done well on that NL, or you got an unlucky pheno',... no way your set-up is behind this lengthy cycle! Large pots and such only affect so much, and I mean by days, not weeks,...
Have you tried Sour Crack yet? I'm dyin' too, but getting the damn seeds is a joke anymore (prefer to go Mephisto direct).. But she's a genuine speed queen, very potent, stays small regardless of MO... should be a pretty heavy buzz as well with the right pheno'... parent 24Carat is for sure heavy, fast as well....

No doubt you're set for now though! :dragon8: :haha::haha::haha:

Nice result :smoking:

Great to see what awaits... I have some of those NL Auto from Seedsman, they threw them in as freebies on top of the 150 quid worth of seeds I won in their promotion.

Nope, haven't tried Sour Crack yet. Since I still have a good supply of 24 Carat, and now (here's hoping I can keep the mold at bay with those fat juicy colas...) the Northern Lights, I should be good for sleep meds for a while.

I prefer to deal with Mephisto direct as well, but my seed supply is good for now, so given the scrum at every opening, I will not be buying any more of their seeds any time soon. Once they get their supply sorted better, buying their stuff will make more sense to me. Until then, I am not desperate enough to participate in their purchase process.

Thanks for the clarification on the influence of pot size etc. on timing. I did not realize that the effects were that subtle. Another thing I did to the poor girl is lock her out a few times, at least that is what I think I did - dealt with by major flushing on at least three or four occasions, so perhaps that has something to do with her timing. She did well given the abuse.

I have been puzzling about how to avoid the nuisance of nute buildup and subsequent lockout with autopots. If my next grow suffers as badly as this one did, I may switch to automated top watering.
I like the convenience and effectiveness of the autopots, but not at the expense of constantly fighting with nute buildup.

The two potential improvements I will try first with the autopots, I think, are a plastic skirt around the fabric pots, loose enough to allow air pruning, but tight enough to dramatically reduce air flow across the pot surface and the resulting evaporation and peripheral nute concentration increase. Ditto with a plastic "mulch" on the top of the pot. I may also set up a way of doing easy top watering/flushing pre-emptively every week or two. If I still run into issues that bug me enough, the top watering setup would be all ready to go. The thinking cap is on.

OTOH, the autopots would presumably work a treat in a water only grow - that one is also a possibility. Too many options, too few years.

Plan on a long grow, and think about how you will handle the grow if one or more of them refuse to auto. I had an extra "tent" for my girl primarily because I was concerned that, given others' experiences, she might not auto at all. At least in a separate tent, if I was forced to go 12/12, it would not bugger up the other autos in the grow. Please tag me if you do a journal. I will be interested to see how yours behave. If you don't torture them like I did, they may do even better.

Good luck with it mate, I hope you knock it out of the park. :pighug:
