Indoor Mg Deficiency or...?

Really depends more on the what. I live in a delta area that has brackish water 6 months, my ppm is high due to sodium from the river. Doesn't work for growing. That's really pretty high, I'd at least blend that down with RO or distilled to the 100-150 range. Maybe 3 gallons to 1.

City average data from source (lake) from 2018 (latest year available, average reported):

130 CaCO3 ppm,
.2 ppm boron,
52ppm calcium,
25ppm magnesium
3ppm potassium,
30ppm sodium,
163 ppm sulfate

Any major offenders on that list? Going 3:1 probably reasonable nonetheless.

:toke:-- brutally hard water will screw up the whole scene in there,... It forces pH up, and the mineral build-up also keeping piling on the ppm's in the soil which past a point will start to mess with uptake of other nutes,... Switch ASAP to a different source, like those self fill machines,.... around 150ppm is fine, 200ppm just OK,... The hardness doesn't always equate to uptake-available ions, so there's that too,... The RO water at 25ppm is a bit alarming, your membrane may be failing,.. better than tap, but a heads up there,.. usually ppm's should be under 5,...
The dolomite has taken this even further to excess, even if it's a slower acting form of lime... With FF soils, you're already behind the 8ball, lousy quality in general, low pH common.... this alkaline input can help, but again, the net ionic load in the soil is an issue for uptake, pH and potential lockouts,...
Are the tops paling out, lowers better? If so, it's starting a micronutrient defc., and/or uptake issue...
Look into getting a soil pH probe, like the Accurate 8 (Control Wizard) = :phsoil: (long probe here), good for the $! Mine has been a champ,....nothing beats in-pot measurements!

Appreciate the guidance, thank you! Cleaner water it is. Nothing like that first grow to learn some critically important lessons about substrate and water quality!

Its all a learning curve beachbud everyone of us growers have been in your position

For sure epicxr...actually really like the learning curve of things. Keeps it interesting and engaging.

Since FF soils seem to be somewhat universally frowned upon for a number of reasons across multiple forums, is there a “gold standard” for commercially available soils if using basic chemical nutes, RO water, and blurple LED? I know this is such a loaded question, akin to “what’s the best flavor of ice cream” and probably been beaten to death across a thousand threads...nonetheless...suggestions for me grow# 2 assuming that I don’t want to mix my own soil, don’t want to go hydro/dwc, and am not ready to go full organic?

Hmm why not buy a pre mixed medium? I see them like 70% soil 30% perlite

I mixed my own for my first grow coir n perlite next time im gonna add worm castings and some vermiculite aswell.

Also waiting on my MC nutes got a free sample incoming cant wait

Hi. I just started growing again after a long time and ran into what seemed like mg deficiency. I have tried all sorts of things and the only explanation left is that i started feeding flowering nutes a bit too much bit too early and they caused an mg not to absorb(also causing some nitrogen deficiency in some plants). I checked ph, it doesent really make difference in soil, but i tried correcting it anyways, no help. I tried giving it some more grow nutes for nitrogen, didnt help. I first used a bunch of nutes containing some mg, but not cal-mag. Stuff like AN nirvana and biobizz nutes that have mg. I then tried epsom salt, it didnt make any difference. Oh and at first i thought it was that i had lights on almost 24h, that didnt help really. I gave my plants plenty of plain water the other day and just fed them everything else than bloom nutes, hopefully they start to bounce back before they lose too many fan leaves :/

@CannaDaTaBiz- uhhh, not sure if you have a question or....? maybe start a new thread and add some pics if you are asking for help? Seems like there are guidelines to posting requests for assistance In the infirmary section to help others understand the details of your particular case. Your post may just get buried in this thread and not be seen.

@Machamillion- to finish up this thread, found this Promix HP at Lowe’s near me. This the gold standard that you are talking about?
