Hi,

I am doing my first grow and wanted to get feedback on using Megacrop Part 1 as nutrients along with Hydroguard and Great White to help with the roots.

My set up is a simple 5 gallon DWC bucket in a 2x2.5 tent. Growing a Dutch Passion - Think Differently Auto.

I have been reviewing these boards and see that Megacrop seems sufficient from start to finish but seems that Hydroguard and Great Whites are critical to help the roots.

questions:
1.) Should I add Bud Explosion PK Booster or Cal-Mag pro? I am running HLG 135 v2 RSPEC
2.) Is Hydroguard/Great White an effective combo or overkill?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I think you can run Hydrogaurd by itself but great white won't hurt.

I would skip the PK booster.

I'd skip the cal mag.

Mega crop can grow great plants by itself.

The more simple you keep it the more likely you are to succeed this first time. Keep a journal in the new growers section and don't be afraid to ask for help.

For DWC I'd try to get @Mañ'O'Green and @Simplicio to follow your journal by mentioning them in it using the @ symbol.

Good luck!

Hydrogaurd is a must in DWC.
It provides the water good enzymes to help prevent bad alege and protect the roots from rot.
2mm per gallon does the trick.

@jokgga :welcome:Welcome to AFN:welcome:DWC is one of my favorite ways to grow cannabis. I have a primer here after you read it tag me with questions by putting the atmark @ in front of my name:

Yes you can use HydroGuard and Great White together.

I'm a fan of Mega Crop ver 2.0
It's a great product for start to finish grows.
The only short coming is its a little short on magnesium.
So get yourself a 2 pound bag of epsom salt at Walmart($3, yes...$3 not $15 from the growshop  )

In regular soil I mix my nutes with 50ppm of epsom salt, then top up to500ppm with MC.

Rigjht through to harvest.

I would be doing this for DWC. Think I need magnesium? Should I get some epson salt just in case?

DWC is not my bag.
@ManOGreen is resident guru on this subject.

MC is a little low in magnesium when I grow in coco.
You really dont need much. If you over do it.

You will create a def'c in other elements like calcium.
I would start without the epsom...and only add if needed.
First immediate sign will be stems going purple.
Not bad, not dangerous.
Just a sign to address the issue.

I use GreenLeaf MegaCrop 1.0 with a bit of CalMag, and no other fertilizer.
Clorox is a cheaper alternative to other root protectors, 2 drops per gallon per day.
I've never had root rot that I know of, but a small reservoir did smell funny once. I increased clorox, an it was fine.

Do you do DWC or flood to drain?

@Mañ'O'Green @Simplicio @greenjeans

Hoping you can provide feedback on my first week plans.

I am currently germinating my seed (using @greenjeans method) via water for 24 hours and than am planning to sprinkle some Great White on the tap root (once it is out a few cm) before putting it into a Rockwell cube (moist from PH balanced water) and straight to my DWC bucket with hydroton around it. From there I would cover with a pot lid (humidity dome) to let the seed sprout in the DWC bucket and taking the lid off and starting the veg process once I see the very first leave open up.

For the water in the reservoir (i would fill it up to the hydroton rocks but not the rockwell), I was going to put some light nutrients:

6 grams of MC Part 1 (based on their calculator for a 3 gallon reservoir)
1ML Hydroguard (will put 2ML once roots come out)
0.5 gram of Great White

This would be mixed in 3 gallons of water and effectively be the water they feed off the next week while the roots grow and eventually feed off the water.

Is this too much for the first week? Should I do a lot less MC to prevent nute burn? I would be doing this for the next two weeks, before I start putting in the recommended amount.

Also - I am planning to keep my HLG 135 at 50% power 30 inches from the bucket during germination (keeping temp around 72-78).
Once I remove the humidity dome and start a 20/4 hour light schedule, I would move the light to around 18-24 inches from the bucket, adjusting weekly. Is this a good light plan?

As always, thanks for your help and wish me luck on this!
