My girls just started germing tonight, so hopefully they pop in a day or two. I just ordered two 300 Mars hydro led panels and should get them within two weeks. In the meantime I'll be vegging them under my cfl's that I used in previous grows. Once I get the panels in, how far should I keep the lights from the canopy/leaves? And is there any tips or help I need to know for growing with led's?

What's up buddy. The mars 300 I would start arpund 24 inches and watch them if the start to stretch a bit get them in a little closer around 18 and you'll be golden. The major thing to watch for is cal/mag use under led is critcal. I don't know the science behind it I just know plants love LED and they love cal/mag when under it so have some available. Preferably a 0-0-0 value so it doesn't interfere with your intended feed regiment

Hey...I am a vertically challenged grower using old style mars 100X3w (real draw at 180w). I have my seedlings at 21" from the tops of the 15day old plants to the surface of the lights. My grow went smooth at that distance for seedling stage and into early flower and then I pushed them up into the light 7-10" from the surface, and they flowered great. I didn't experience any light burn, but I do have very good circulation across the surface of the lights using pc fans. Anyways just my experience. There is an LED guide that suggests distances that will help you: https://www.autoflower.org/threads/magics-basic-led-guide.47975/

Hey A-train, thanks for the info, and when u added cal-mag how did you know you needed it and how often did you use it?
And 912, I checked out that thread and I think i know what distance I'll be keeping them at so thanks for that.

I run advanced nutrients using Tangs schedule and start using calmag at day 30

With the mars 300(60x5)your fine at 18" for seedlings, 12" for everything else. Below 8" is where I see some stress. The spread is pretty poor no matter how high you have it, so may as well drop em as close as you can.

Cal mag, blue/red leds eat through cal mag. General Organics CaMg+ is 0-0-0 so it's hard to overdo, Epsom salts is another easy(and cheap) source of mag, I seem to have more Mg problems than Ca under mars leds.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but what do u mean with (60x5)? And when you say the spread is pretty poor, are you referring to the amount of space the lights cover? Are these not a good light for their price, and should I add some cfl's in the room even if I have 2 Mars 300w covering a tent that measures 4x2x5'? Thanks for the help Atulip

60 x 5 watt chips(the ones sold by mars hydro on eBay), the older model mars hydro 300 is 100x3.

2'x4' is doable with 2x mars300, put each in the center of a 2'x2' area and hang it 18" to get a good spread. Or drop it to 12". 18" should be the best overall use of the light in that space, but if you don't have buds all the way to the walls of your space, I'd go 12" to get more concentration of light on the plants.

Iirc mars uses mostly 90° leds. 12" high and 2'x2', the outer rim would be about 50% of the light output of the center. Raising it to 18" should be about 70-75% of the center(at a sacrifice of center light intensity)

3 total would be better. But 2 would do ok. I managed ~5oz my first grow with 2x mars 300 in 6sq feet of space, and I was neglectful and almost killed them once lol.

They're not bad lights. Watt for watt they're pretty comparable to HPS for overall light output. And really cuts down on heat.(That was my issue with hps).

3 would be optimal, and 2 would be on the lower end of flowering for that space. And 4 would be bomb. Hitting that 1200+ ppfd at that point. But less efficient overall than 3.
