What does NPK stand for?

NPK is literally nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

The numbers are the respective % by weight in the fertilizer.

But... it's actually the % by weight of nitrogen N, phosphorus pentoxide P2O5, and potassium oxide K2O.
Not actually N, P and K.
