Dr McPherson teamed up with electronics giant Philips to create the research centre - the only one of its kind in the UK.
About four years ago I was out in Holland at a science exhibition when I saw that a couple of the big electronics companies were starting to market LED lighting for horticulture,’ he said.
‘It occurred to me at the time that this could be the key to kickstarting urban farming in the UK.
‘We held talks with Philips, one thing led to another and we created a 1,000 square metre "city farm" in a warehouse at the STC.

Hands Up everyone who Believes he was in Holland at a "Science Exhibition"....:xlaugh:

Hey Bilbo, I've been using a sheet of photography light diffusion plastic over the glass of my Mars II to prevent light burn. It's just an opaque white material. I don't know if it mixes the light but it softens it a bit.

I gasp to think of all of the power I've wasted.

Hi there Jack, might have guessed it would be you that beat me to it :) I know it's a bit of a cliche but power is bugger all use unless you can use it well so losing a bit of lumens to protect your plants seems fair enough. From what I can gather if it makes it softer then it's mixing the light.

What got me toying with the idea was having 3 panels at different heights purely to avoid burning the leaves, I'm in a 6'6" tent now and the COB still has to be up as high as possible, the V panel about 36" away and the flowering panel about 18". Considering the cob is more powerful than any 2 of the other panels together it's no big surprise but it does mean the other panels lose efficiency due to the cob beaming heat onto the top of them.

Think I'll try a sheet of photography plastic on the cob and a bit of stick on sheeting for the V panel in the seedling tent.

(surely you are not suggesting that possible canna related activities aren't science........!!!)

I can't adjust my single light to multiple plant heights so I'm diffusing it to avoid burning the tallest plants. How have you been Bilbo? I am sorry I haven't talked to you in ages. How's Winter where you are? I'm getting hammered with snow this year. Around 5' so far.

I went and bought a taller tent and moved from a cupboard to a room thinking it would be easier. I say "thinking" in the loosest possible sense as I forgot to take into account that I'll have to regulate the temps in a whole room before the tent which would be much easier if I'd known the radiator in the room was stuck on full and got a plumber in to fix it BEFORE I started the grow :) I could have stayed in the cupboard and used a diffuser :P

Anyway, good to hear from you too bro, winter's never close to what I'd call bad where I am as it rarely dips below 0c and we've had snow twice in 20 years. Haven't seen 5' of snow since I fell into a drift in Norway many moons ago (I fell off the side of a Norwegian snow plough on my world tour of getting pissed in as many countries as possible or military service as it is better known).

Subbed up on your grow, hope those 24 carat seedlings perform as well as they have started!

Hello Stoners. Gd'day to ya and on ya.

I was looking at a ShortRyder bud and came across this. I want to say Calyx but it just doesn't look right. Any ideas?

Good Morning AFN'ers

Completely of topic again but I've been using tap water to water and feed my plants . Never occurred to me that chlorine and fluoride ( both of which are in my water ) could be harmful to the plants. So I bought me a nice new water pitcher complete with filter from non other than WALLMART . Yep good old Wallmart . Highly recommended by a chemist from the U.S.A. to remove 99% of the TDS in water and guess what it works :dance2:IMG_0439.jpg
