Ah yes, that's all basically what I knew skunk to be. I think part of my irritation is the misuse of the word skunk by the UK press. Now I'm not in the UK so I really have no place to complain lol, but it's just inaccurate and confuses people. In scientific contexts, like official reports or peer-reviewed studies, it's just absolutely ridiculous to use this level of improper slang.

Maybe I'm too much of a purist lol, and yeah I'm eccentric haha... But this is what happens when you have strict PhDs for your college teachers lol, you get crazy over bad studies haha.

When it first showed up in the 70's there was no hiding the odor. Everyone in the grow area knew the smell. A lot of growers took to float grows in swamps where there was skunk cabbage. Others went skunk cabbage hunting and brought it to decoy around their grow, usually drawing dogs and handlers into difficult areas to pass, and of course the swamps. Given a choice of writing up the reasonable explanation "Pungent skunk cabbage" verses slogging through mud, crossing a ravine or thicket, most local law took the easy way. Few had choppers then except cities, Feds, or special teams. A county might have had one. Skunk has a closer cultural tie to that wild cabbage than the critter they are both named after.

It is so F in annoying Anthropolis! I work within Academia and I see the same short-sightedness!! Every damn day!!!

In our city there is this wonderful phrase, "Town and Gown!" to describe them and us. I'm definitely town by the way!
