Good Evening AFN Stoners...:yay1:..time for a Compulsory smoke break..coz I Need one...:pass:

Hows things down on the farm?

Oh..don't Ask Feenix...:nono:..Everything is at a Full Stop until we get the agricultural water sorted..:yeahthat:..you just wouldn't Believe the hassle we have had..:wall:..the upshot is that this morning we became the proud owners of 100 meters of pipe to try pumping it from the sluice direct into the garden.

The old farmer caught hubby up by the sluice the other day and he says the field pipes are knackered..mostly collapsed with age and they will cost a lot to replace..probably wouldn't be worth it unless we were going commercial..so he suggested pumping it in would be the cheaper alternative.

Hence the trip to the local co-op this morning for the pipe and fittings.
We can but give it a go..:growing:..nothing is going to grow without it.

I got past the point where I was pulling my hair out in despair a couple of weeks ago...:coffee:...I'm past it now.

Resigned myself to an Autumn garden..or even a Spring one for next year..depending on the water situation.

Today was spent at the co-op for the pipe..a Visit to hubby M8's place to see his hen house lay out..a look at the cockerel he is going to give us.....and trying to rig up a tarp over one of the kennels to give them some shade.

I'm wrecked...and we are back down early in the morning to try to get the tarp fixed in before the wind lifts around lunch time.

No rest for the wicked..:crying:

Come on over and check out the newest competition!!!

Just a little funny. I saw an article in the Racing Post, it described the menu at a local dog track. For an extra £1.50 you could order "corn on the knob" !!!
Sounds painful.

If you are already going to be running pipe from a running sluice you may want to consider solving your electric supply at the same time. A turbine at the end of the first number of meters of tapered pipe would give you plenty then the water can go on its merry way where you direct it.

I will try to find the video where I saw it done. It was very reasonable to put together and made power 24/7, lots of power. No one component was too expensive to not allow a backup and it was very simple in design, the only parts are a turbine, not real intimidating when you find a salvage yard full of them, and a generator. You can pick and choose the size based on your needs and buy one from any manufacturer. Even a gas one and find another use for the motor. Some valves and reduced pipe diameters. some calculating ahead of time will give the needed diameters and distance to build the velocity needed. The one I saw exhausted the outflow back into the stream but there is no harm in having boosted water pressure to your spray heads or irrigation feeds as well as kitchen and bath feeds if the water is potable. A bypass will return it to the sluice when not needed so there is no wasted water. It beats having to constantly buy fuel or electric to pump it to the fields
