Nimbin cannabis to feature in latest Alien film

Cannabis plants from Nimbin will be onboard the spaceship in the latest Alien movie.

By Darren Coyne

Cannabis plants from the Nimbin area are set to be featured in the latest Alien film being directed by Ridley Scott.

The plants, which have been delivered to Fox Studios in Sydney, are to be used as props in Alien 4: The Covenant.

The film is a sequel to the 2012 film Prometheus, and will take place roughly ten years later.

The story will follow the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, where the crew discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, inhabited solely by the android David, survivor of the ill-fated Prometheus expedition.

However, the planet is soon revealed to be far more dangerous than they expected.

But how will the crew survive during their long periods in outer space, dealing with illness and trauma? Medicinal cannabis of course.

That’s where the Nimbin connection comes in.

Hemp grower and medicinal cannabis advocate Andrew Kavasilas, has told Echonetdaily that he has supplied plants for the movie.

“I’ve got some at Fox Studios that are being used for Alien 4: The Covenant,’ Mr Kavasilas said.

‘Ridley Scott specified that he wanted live cannabis for the movie.’

Mr Kavasilas said the cannabis used in the movie would be grown in pods on the spaceship to be used by the astronauts as they travel through space.

‘They partake in the cannabis to treat things like post traumatic stress disorder and other medical conditions,’ he said.

‘There are well over a hundred plants down there now.’

The film is scheduled to be released on 4 August, 2017.

The ‘starring’ role for the local cannabis plants coincides with Mr Kavasilas organising another batch of plants that will be on display at a major hemp and medical cannabis symposium being held in Sydney this weekend.

Just had a nice morning surprise....

The 4th seed finally popped her head up today 4/5 days after the others... (I have already put two replacements in water and they are shooting too)

Now that means I have 6 plants on the way not 4.... Oh well, what can one do!
