Cannabis may seem like the unlikely material for making a sportscar, but one car enthusiast was not going to let that stop him.

Behold the weed-mobile..

Made from the chassis of a Mazda convertible, the cannabis car is bringing a new meaning to the phrase ‘green machine’ and could soon be seen on high roads around the world.

The man behind the car, Bruce Michael Dietzen from Florida, hopes his environmentally friendly automobile could help debunk the taboo behind the cannabis plant and its uses.

He said: “Cannabis hemp is still considered a dangerous drug according to the government. It’s considered as dangerous as heroin or cocaine - it’s insane!”

This green machine is made from three plies of woven Hemp making it lighter than cars made from fibre glass.

The car is also surprisingly strong, Bruce estimates the body is at least 10 times more dent resistant than steel.

He said: “The body of the car uses about 100 lbs of woven hemp.”

Bruce was inspired to build the sports car after hearing about renowned industrialist, Henry Ford, using the durable material in 1941 to build the world’s first Soybean/Hemp car.

It was also one of the first uses of bio fuel in a vehicle as the car ran also ran on hemp fuel.

Building the cannabis car, however was no easy feat for Bruce as acquiring the controversial material proved more difficult than he expected.

The car-enthusiast said: “I live in Florida, Hemp is still illegal to grow so I had to import the woven material all the way from China because we still don’t have the facilities that can make hemp fabrics.”

The car itself cost the former National Sales Manager at Dell $200,000 (£137,903) to build and a further $200,000 in lost earnings.

It runs on a bio fuel made from recycled agricultural waste and is expected to have a much lower carbon footprint than standard electric powered cars when it goes into mass production.

The former executive is currently working on a Docu-Series entitled: ‘Hempsters Cannabis Car Tour’ with Producer and business partner, and fellow Cannabis Hemp activist, Diana Oliver of Thunderbird Productions.

Diana Oliver’s first film in the Hempsters Doc/film Series, ‘features Hollywood actor and activist Woody Harrelson and musician and cannabis activist Willie Nelson discussing the benefits of the plant, from its medicinal benefits to its everyday uses for things such as clothing. Hempsters Plant the Seed,’

Bruce said: “Many states are starting to make it legal, it’s a really great sign as we’re getting back to the point where we’re starting to make products out of Industrial hemp just as Henry Ford suggested we should do, we can grow our own Petroleum, Paper and Plastic , all from the Soil’.

The top 4(20) pot-centric cars in auto culture

There have been many iconic cars in popular culture, but today The Auto Reporter is countinue down the top 4(20) pot-inspired cars in auto history.

While some are real cars for the road, others took the road straight out of pop culture.

So sit back with your couchlock legal weed (or beer or nothing…) and enjoy these 4(20) inspired cars.

4 – Cheech and Chong’s pot van

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are an indelible pair who have delighted movie-goers for decades with their stoner comedy. However, it was in “Up in Smoke” that their most iconic car came about.

The pot van. Not a van for pot, but a van made out of pot.

While Cheech and Chong are the unwitting smugglers of said pot van, it sure does go up in a blaze of glory.

3 – Henry Ford’s Hemp Car
henry-ford-3-300x300.jpg

Henry Ford’s imagination was about 80 years ahead of his time for this one, the hemp car. Credit: http://bit.ly/1alwD4u
Only a few years after the passage of the 1936 Marijuana Tax Stamp, pot was made illegal across the country, though many states had illegalized it already. However, that didn’t matter to Henry Ford.

Yes, Henry Ford, owner of that long lasting company, created a Hemp Car back in the 1940’s, during the beginning of marijuana prohibition. Not only would the vehicle run on hemp gasoline, but it would also be made of some hemp-plastics, one of the first cars designed with bioplastics.

However, since we don’t see hemp-powered cars, something must have killed off Ford’s Eco-friendly commuter.

Cheap gasoline. Given our current standings with climate change and the end of oil, it makes me wish Ford had succeeded.

2 – Dazed and confused GTO

This car held my imagination for years. Please, car-gods, give me a GTO Judge. Credit: http://bit.ly/1FhhgHR
When I was younger, I remember my mother pushing me out of the room as my family watched Dazed and Confused with my older sister. “Go play…outside,” she’d say.

As my mom attempted to harry me out of the room, there it was – my unicorn, my eleanor, the GTO.

Who cares about the attempts to lure teenage girls with hearthrobby guys, there was the 1970 Pontiac GTO, ‘the Judge’.

When I saw that Orbit Orange, I wanted one. No oogling over McConaughey (I wonder if he drove a Lincoln home); in fact, screw the people, give me that beautiful GTO. Please?

1 – Canada’s Kestrel, a eco-friendly sports car
kestrel-hemp-car-5-07-11.jpg

Small, electric, and eco-friendly. What more could a Seattleite want? Sadly, it too went ‘up in smoke’ though no one was happy about it. Credit: http://bit.ly/1N9KEnL
While the other cars are either pipe dreams or relics of the past, or both, Kestrel has been making smoke in Canada and has come up with something that may actually work.

The Kestrel is an electric (eCar) prototype the company announced back in 2010. It only has a top speed of around 55 miles per hour (queue the Sammy Hagar) and would go only around 25 to 100 miles before need another recharge, however, it’s a good idea.

A good idea that was never more than smoke in the wind.

However, with weed and hemp now legal in Washington State, maybe some of the powers that be around here may pick up on the idea and share the wacky weed to make a Hemp eCar get off the drawing board and onto the roads.

Hemp is an amazing building material and can be used for an astounding array of construction products too.

Hemp Building Materials

Hemp can be made into any building material, including fiberboard, roofing, flooring, wallboard, caulking, cement, paint, paneling, particleboard, plaster, plywood, reinforced concrete, insulation, insulation panels, spray-on insulation, concrete pipes, bricks, and biodegradable plastic composites which are tougher than steel.

Foundations can be made out of hemp hurds, a processed based on ancient technology adapted for modern use. To do this, set up a plywood frame (preferably hemp plywood), then fill with a mixture of hemp hurd (wood chip-like substance) and combine with lime, sand, plaster, some cement, and enough water to dampen, and let the mixture set for a day. Then take the frame down, but let the mixture continue to harden for about a week. The lime and the hurds create a chemical reaction which binds the mixture together. Amazingly these structures continue to get harder and stronger everyday until they fossilize, as is testament by a 6th century hemp-reinforced bridge in France. After this happens, the hemp foundation walls are as strong as stone.

Good Morning Stoners!
What's the buzz?!?!?
Just submitted my entry in the Sweet Seeds photo contest! Boy there's some good competition making for tough choices! Been working on my outdoor veg garden. Makes me really want to plant some beans out of doors. Cannot risk it though. I am legal and want to keep it that way.
Have a wild Wednesday!

Morning wwwillie :smoking:
Good luck in the comp bro!
Working in your veg garden, I wish I could be doing that today too but been raining on and off all morning.:greenthumb:

I feel what your saying but best not to risk it , like you say. Legal to grow your crop in doors , would be a dream come true for me.

I'd love to do some guerrilla growing but it is really hard to find a good spot near me.

Thanks birman
