Morning SoH, hope you ain't diluged with reported content

How how's the site development going been a bit laggy at times.

I love the find your own threads bit lol

What's the plan for blogs

Morning hairyman!

I think we're making some good strides on the site dev right now; we all experienced the massive lag but we're beefing up some things (and since we did that, it's gotten MUCH, MUCH faster.) There were a few oversights made about the upgrade (not intentional but things that just needed to get addressed (and a few that still need to get addressed.) The bulk of the changes/add-on's are now on the site, so now comes the process of configuring, tweaking, and just getting feedback on what works and doesn't (we're trying out a few new things, I'd rather try and fail than not try at all, ya know?)

There is in fact the new blog system on the site, we haven't (admittedly) tested it extensively yet. A few people (I think @Steviestash was one of them) tested it out on HOTT, but there's definitely some work to put in on it to see if it's going to work for our needs. In the meantime, we'll likely just ask people to use the same system we've always used.

There's a whole bunch of new and updated features with the new software; we have the option to add in extra questions to be filled out on newly created threads, so it'd be possible when you start a new grow journal thread, there'd be a list of questions about your setup, lights, nutrients, etc, that you could optionally fill out (just more of a "guided" way to starting threads.)

We had "threadmarks" in the old version of the software, which is like a bookmark for a post, but now this version has Threadmark Indexes, so threads can literally read like a book index!

Here's a mockup:
Threadmark Explanation 17.png

You can choose whether the thread is complete or incomplete, can add images, additional links, and the list of threadmarks is fully sortable as well (so if you put something in out of order, you can drag-and-drop it back into place.) I think this is going to VASTLY help with a lot of threads around here if it's utilized. Grow battles are going to be incredibly easy to sort through now. Testing journals too, let's you skip the comments and get right to the updates (if you want to.)

Threadmark Explanation 16.png

A quicker view (above) of getting to specific threadmarks. You can also switch into "Reader Mode," which literally displays only the threadmarks but in normal "scroll down" list. Read only updates!

Some neat things for sure!

We've been kicking around doing a Wikipedia or a more "accessible" knowledge base for autoflowers as well. I've got the start of a glossary going (which I'd love help from the community with,) full of cannabis-everything in terms of terms lol.

That looks great for individual grows, battle plant grows,

I like the sound of the blog format for a perpetual grow and can subsection it into breeding, cooking etc keep all me things in one place,,

Another feature we're working on is video galleries:

We still likely won't be hosting video files on the forum directly, but I'm working on a new feature for adding videos from Vimeo & YouTube, where they can be sorted into categories. We don't host them here, you just drop the link in (via submit media,) and it pulls in the video (which plays in a player on-site) and information from the video.

I know we have a few growers on here that are video bloggers and podcasters, the idea is we'd create them categories and then they can upload the videos themselves or we do it for them, either or. Anyway, it's just a concept I wanted to try out :hump:

Heya LS peeps, been a minute.

So here's a peek at the blogging system for grow journals:

Step 1: You'd create a "Blog" that acts your master index of your journals.

Once your blog is created, you'd post an entry. It'd ask which category you'd like to post it in:

Let's say we choose Indoor Grow Journals, click on that, and it's like creating a normal brand new thread (like you normally would.)
1572455759082.png

Once you post it, it updates the list of journals for everyone to see:

If I want to add entries to my indoor journal, I click on it, and then there are options in a drop down to "add pages." I'm skipping a few steps here, but once added, it creates an index for your thread entries:

If you click on "View Full Entry," you can view every entry in a list scrolling down (making it an easy read.)

All comments are kept to it's own section at the bottom of the blog, so entries are separate from the comments/replies, keeping the journal extremely clean.

Whether we use this or not really just depends on if we can get people to use it (without it being a pain in the butt cheeks.)

Liking so far,, especially if you could link this to HOTT battle threads,,

I take it I can't start a category, say micro grows or edible recipes ?

Well if you start a trial team up, give us shout pal

So, are battles coming back here? Maybe a Wikipedia for using the site with all these goodies?

I harvested the 3 Dark Devils by Sweet Seeds:
Dark Devil 1 was constantly necrotic and showed signs of deficiencies throughout its life. I finally just ignored her issues. She turned out to be an ok plant:

DarkDevil1a.jpg

Dark Devil 2 was mostly a normal plant and the most purple of the 3 plants.

DarkDevil2a.jpg

Dark Devil 3 is a real beauty. The fragrance filled the house the second she came out of the space - sweet pine with undertones of fruit citrus. A pleasure to grow. She had little purple but the buds have a lavender hue. I would like to have 6 plants in one grow just like her!
