It actually seems like all music has lost that warm sound. My theory is that all the old equipment used tubes for amplification. These comments had me laughing pretty hard. I feel the same way I appreciate the musicianship then the lack of easily understood structure starts to just get to me I don't have a deep enough understanding of jazz to appreciate it the way others can. I thought it was maybe just me who had that reaction I guess not though. Louis Armstrong has one of the most distinct beautiful voices I've ever heard @WildBill that's an amazing story. That would've been quite the experience and something you wouldn't forget very easily I wouldn't imagine. There is something about some of the older music records in particular that has an enchanting warm quality to the music that's just not in modern music. I got very deep into the blues when I was lost in guitar playing and it led me to appreciate so many older artists I didn't previously. Didn't understand why my uncle liked Patsy Cline and those older artists with vocal tones you don't hear anymore when I was little. I listen to everything and appreciate it all but I tend to usually find my way back to the metal I am a welder when the world is normal maybe I've just breathed too much metal in and had to many slivers find there way in, the metal seems to be in my blood now..... Literally.
Not to mention recording... all digital now and compressed. It loses a lot.It actually seems like all music has lost that warm sound. My theory is that all the old equipment used tubes for amplification.
