The biggest hunk of titainum I've seen is the ball of the ball valve of the TDU(Trash Disposal Unit) on a old S-Class attack submarine or first gen Ballistic missile submarine, same unit in either................I'm toasted! Chocolates kicking in!
It surprised me on how light it was. I can't grasp how expensive it must have been way back then when it was built.

You know Subs?
A guy tried to get me involved in a treasure hunt claiming that batteries designed to discharge in a burst were in certain torpedos and had many pounds of silver. AUTEC shot many into the Bahamian test range that were never recovered. Have you ever heard of them?
When I figured the resources needed to salvage anything from 3500' to almost 7000', back then, I passed.

That's what I said, not as eloquently.
Today it would be expensive but doable. Any not in the depths off the Tongue Of The Ocean were recovered.

Yeah, I worked on those black turds at SUBASE PEARL for 4 years. I had my shore duty extended two friggin times to stay there. It was a good duty station in the big picture. I learned a hell of a lot of things and got to really show my leadership abilities. I went there not knowing much about subs and left being the LPO(Leading Petty Officer) for the shop as an E-6 when it was an E-8 billet. I got a cool division officer in right after getting there. He was a Warrant Officer, so he knew what it was to be an enlisted guy. He soon realized what I could do and he loaded up my young ass! When the shop got in a burned out alcoholic Bubblehead(submariner) as leader, got got rid of the micro-managing bastard, He gave me the job. I had the position for 6 months before a replacement came in. At least I got "Jesus Christ" evals while stationed there. I walked above the water! LOL!
