Hmm, I use the same soil (no pebbles), with autopots and haven't noticed that kind of smell in the soil, but i did have some organic BOOM spray that was left too long in the bottle and when opened had the same aweful stench.

 mystery!

Edit: I've just been reading the same problem from someone using Autopots and soil - although from 12 years ago. Some of the advice is shockingly bad, but one thing i see in common is the pebbles.

Saw someone mention the rootball should smell like freshly pulled potatoes, and that's usually what my soil smells like following a grow when i throw it out.

Others saying, the roots are rotting, but i've used Autopots for years and never had that.

Check that the bottom of the the try only has a small amount of water under the pot, and not an inch of sitting water.

FYI, i use Canna nutes (not organic)

Double Edit: What size resevoir are you mixing up at one time, and how long does it sit in the rez for? I only use about 10 litres at a time (one plant grower) and that gets used up roughly every 4 days and run a minimal nute lineup .

Could it also be that the nutes in the rez are getting funky over time?

(just thoughts really)

Thank you for reply , im am suprised hearing you dont use pebbles , hate the thought of soil sitting in the water for that long lol, glad every thing is going well for you, i use the general hydro tri part nutes, and 47L every 3-4 days like you thier is a film layer on the water in the res and bottom of pots not sure what thats from in an hour i can take some pics and have a good smell, would it be possible to start top feeding, the soil is so dam dry tho on the top couple of inches in the pot . @blue

Autopot grower here for several years.

I have done grows with---
Coco only, coco/perlite mix, coco/perlite with perlite in the bottom inch of pots and coco/perlite with clay pebbles in the bottom of pot.

I always use Hydroguard in all my grows.

My findings-- generally I grow 3 or 4 different strains and have had 1 plant with root rot from time to time.

I have found that when i have used the airdomes that I don't get any root rot. I am guessing that the airdomes are "good insurance"against root rot. Perhaps from oxygenation of the root zone if the strain is fussy about sitting in a solution. On the otherhand, I have grown without airdomes without any problems, and so has many others here who use Autopots.

Hope this helps.

Hope these look ok
