Live Stoner Chat Lighting choices

Hmm! I'm going to have to do a bit of reading up on these COB's. I like the idea of the almost complete. I think it would be fun to build a light.
Thank you.

be sure to get the driver with the dimming option and get a 100k potentiometer for 2 bucks on top so you can dimm your COB's if needed. This doesnt take much time, money or knowledge and makes things so much easier.

+1 on the dimmer option; I have a dimmer on my Tasty LED COB and I've used it a countless number of times.

I suggest cob lights all the way. Three plants, three cobs, one for each plant. Maybe get reflectors for them as well. You can't go wrong with cobs from www.cobshop.net. I am very glad that I switched from my mass built led lights to cob lights. No noise, low heat, low draw, easy to move. The overall health of my plants are better with cobs too.

That small tent is a 36" wide x 20" deep x 5ft high. I have 2 Autocobs in it. I have 4-5 in a 4x4, that is plenty. I have a lot more Autocobs in bigger space too.
No problem. Here is a link to the site.https://cobshop.net/shop?olsPage=products/almost-complete&olsFocus=false Any questions you have I'd be happy to assist.

There is also a DIY section here I have a few good threads on safety and wiring. Basically you get more than the parts listed on the site. You get help and ideas on how to assemble to make it the best for your space.
What driver would you recommend for 2-3 cob's. I think I'd like to start with 2, and then possibly ad a third down the road.

well then you are at the right spot to think about your config.
If your plan is to end up with 3 but want to start with 2 COB's then you need to buy a driver that can handle 3 COB's. Otherwise you would need to buy another driver for the 3rd COB to be added.

The version they got on cobshop are 47.8V min, 52V typ, 56V max COB's ( datasheet ). so you need a driver that can handle 3 times the 47.8V min, 52V typ, 56V max ( wired in series ).

Minimum: would be 2 COB's with 47.8V = 95.6V minimum.
Typ: would be 3 COB's with 52V = 156V typ. ( this is for 1080ma current [ from datasheet] )
Maximum: would be 3 COB's with 56V = 168V maximum. ( you wont reach this because this is for 2780ma max current )

Depending on the current you want to run them you need to take what you want. Since you got a small tent and planning to end up with 3 COB's i would say go 1050ma or 1400ma max ( preffer 1050ma than 1400ma because of better lumen/W ).

You would need a driver that can handle 95.6V min and about 170V max ( to be sure ) and a constant current of 1050ma or 1400ma.

So at the end i would do this: ( both possible to start with 2 COB's)

1050ma 3xCOB setup:
  • Meanwell HLG-185H-C1050B ( this can handle 95-190V @ 1050ma max. 185W driver, B-version is dimmable )
1400ma 3xCOB setup:
  • Meanwell HLG-240h-C1400B ( this can handle 89-179V @ 1400ma max. 240W driver, B-version is dimmable )

Awesome! Thank you so much.

this is only for the COB seen on that link @BigSm0 posted.

for different COB's u need to do all the calculation again. Keep that in mind.
Copy that. I can probably find the drivers you mentioned on ebay?

you can copy that name i posted and google it ( make sure it is the B version for dimming ). it is the name where u find exactly this product.
I would never buy it used. Better get a new version because u never know what the user has done with it before.
I would not buy them from ebay as long as it is a official reseller.

mouser.com for example got them

@L0wbob2017 great work :cheers:.

I would definitely go hlg-185h-c1050b. This is an extremely versatile driver and probably one of the most popular. The comment on eBay is legitimate as well. I speak regularly with my distributor, in a friendly way and have done so for close to a year now. This did come up as I have seen drivers and cobs for instance on alibaba. He told me there was a large percentage that are fake and a larger percentage that's old stock and out of warranty. The point is peace of mind adds value. Electronics-lighting is not the best place to skimp on cheaper parts.
