I've been growing for over a half century now. Personal use and gifts only. I live in the desert southwest in Cali. I want to try growing some autoflower.I understand its not photoperiod. What I don't know is the minimum amount of light per day this plant needs to be healthy. Its winter now, and we get 8 to 10 hours of good sun a day here. Is that enough?

In general terms, 18/6 is the least amount. I should think 8 to 10 hours will cause a debilitated grow.

Oh you'll get some smoke. I've grown autos for years with a photo alongside...sure it may be a lesser yeild but they'll produce some.
I just harvested an 76g auto girl scout cookies that was 12/12 through flower and was grown in a 2 ltr pot!
So have at it and simply burn the evidence

Maybe. Based on DLI maps your short at 15 - 20 in December and 20 - 25 in January after that you are good as cannabis grows well from 30 to 60. So boost the DLI of your outdoor plants by placing white reflective surfaces behind them and reflect as much light back to the plant as you can. Do not use mirror like surfaces that will focus light and burn the plants. Orca Grow Film would be ideal.

Now that you have enough light how are your temperatures? 68°F night 78°F day? Cold nights <64°F are worse than hot days up to 95°F.
