Awesome. Now im getting excited. @Autoimmune sorry didn't mean to take over your journal. Good opportunity to ask about drying and curing since it came up. Everyone does it different. I don't have much to harvest so this will be a practice round. I think drying and curing ( finding the sweet spot) is the hardest now that I've almost made it thru my first round. I hope this works. And your plants are wonderful. You came over lots of obstacles and your still going. CongratsAbout 2 week but after a week it'll still be a nice smoke.
Yeah one per jar and I continue to burp
I've seen people use the paper bag method. You get better smoke an aroma some say and others say you get wet spots on the bag. I guess it's just preference. What works for you. I also got the hanging drying net thing. I want to try three ways. Paper bag, hanging upside down and the drying net. See which works best for me and which gives the best smoke, flavor, taste and aroma. Can't You just put them in paper bags instead of the box?
Yeah iv never used the bag but alot of people doCan't You just put them in paper bags instead of the box?
I think the cardboard box an paper bags are really similar. Only difference is, is one your hanging upside down an the other is laying down. One you can get wet spots and the other is complete air drying. Both great techniques I think.Yeah iv never used the bag but alot of people do
With the bags the buds go flat were it's lying u have to keep turning them I prefer the boxI think the cardboard box an paper bags are really similar. Great information broI now use the paper bag meathod. I used to use drying racks, but really hard to control what's going on with racks. When I harvest I take everything down to final trim and grade sort it into tops, mids, popcorn. Keeping all the trim for dry ice hash of course. Then I right away I put each grade in heavy brown paper bags, heavier weight the better. I only go one single layer thick on the bottom of the brown bags. Again, only one layer thick. I fold up the top couple inches of the bag and paper clip the bag shut. I then put the bags side by side in large cardboard box, close the cardboard box and try to have enough patience to not open the box for 1 week. After a week in the bag/box, I put into jars, filling about 3/4 full and drop in a hydrometer and seal the jar and let set for several hours. Then check the RH reading on the hygrometer. If the RH is 70 or above, back into the bags, but leave bags out of the box. After a day or so more in the bag, depending on how wet it still was, go back into the jar and check RH. Repeat this until your RH reading gets to about 65, then pop in a Boveda 62 and seal the jar. Once you get into low 70's RH, things dry faster so check more often. Your can just let things cure from there if you want, I still burp every couple days the first two weeks just to get some air exchange in the jar. I personally think the burping increases quality of the cure. I like to let things cure for at least a month to get a full, rich cure. I have some that's been curing for 6 months, that's when the true qualities of the strain come through. Great luck to everyone on your harvests. The curing is kind of a learn by doing thing, just like the grow!! There is no right or wrong way to do it and everyone has their opinions as to what is best, again, just like the grow. As to when to sample the goods, if it will burn or vape you can sample, but the longer you wait the better. If I'm out, I start smokin popcorn right out of the bags. Hope my two cents is of some value. Great grow, congrats.
