Led light for newbie

A light is a disposable commodity that keeps getting cheaper.
I vote for the cheapest dollars per watt, assuming good spectrum and efficiency.

Many lights are available on amazon for less than $1 per watt that appear to be good.

I find it suspicious they don't mention what "samsung diode" they use. I would bet it's not the LM301B/H making it not really competitive. Alibaba is really the way to go for the most bang for the buck TBH.

But of the "more well known" name brands mentioned above, a quick check of current pricing here in Canada at least the the HLG Rspec is coming in at around the same price as the Mars and SF comparable lights. The HLG is using the LM301H Diode in place of the LM301B and they are known to use the better BINS. The mars is using the less efficient epistar diodes and cheap drivers, it's only real saving grace is it's 50 more watts of power. The migro mentioned above is awesome but not really at the same price point. Fk I'm starting to feel like I should be getting paid as a salesman for these companies. Any mars pumping really set me off and I just can't stop myself from saying something lol.. I own one, and I also own a SF. Wish I could get a do over.

For me, the design of the Migro just did it, numbers aside. Just like an Alfa Romeo 4c.... there are better cars for the money but something about it just does something I can't explain. Art? I guess.

The Migro is kinda sexy. One reason that the HLG's are reasonable for what you are getting is that they are NOT sexy. No sleek (and expensive) housing like say an ES. Now the Diablo based lights are not cheap but not nearly as crazy as some. You can get an HLG 350R for $150 LESS than an ES300!

No, I own the light they are the last gen not 301, works for me in a 2x3 closet better coverage

You can buy a dimmer off Amazon (make sure you get three-prong). I’m on my first grow, but I LOVE my HLG Rspec lights. Once I sorted out other issues (don’t cheap out on soil!), my plants have thrived under the light.

Im assuming that in a 2x2 the maximum wattage would be 150w? Can i go 250 or its too much?

Get the SF1000. Wattage doesn't mean much of anything and isn't a determining factor when it comes to making a light purchase.

Imo, get something that will last so it doesn't end up in a landfill or some other unscrupulous place but also get educated on what makes for a quality light.

Imo, get something that will last so it doesn't end up in a landfill or some other unscrupulous place but also get educated on what makes for a quality light.
