Greetings AFN! This will be my first grow so any assistance or constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated. I spent a few months reading various grow journals and instead of following one particular journal I tried to incorporate techniques that I found promising along the way. I know as a beginner this is probably risky but I'm willing to take a few risks in the name of experimentation.

I will be growing 2 Automazars in 5 gallon Smart Autopots in a 4x2 grow tent. For lighting I'll be using a Mars Hydro 144 reflector running 24/7 which is drawing about 300w of actual power. My soil is a Hot soil based on Subcools recipe so I will only be using distilled water throughout the grow cycle. I will be starting them in the final 5 gallon pot but the first 21 days I will be hand watering before I switch the autopots on. I plan on fiming around day 14 to try and keep these girls low and I'll be using a low trellis netting for canopy control, some lst, minor defoliation, and an upper trellis for bud support. I'm using a 4" fan with carbon scrubber for ventilation and odor control, and a 4" inline fan bringing in fresh air. I'm also using a humidifier for increased airflow and to disperse the Exhale Co2 bag I will be using. I will also be using 2 x 8" fans for airflow. My temps are hovering around 83 degrees with a 50% humidity so for the next grow I will probably switch from 4" to 6" fans to see if I can get the temps a little lower but hopefully the conditions won't hinder growth.

On December 11 I put the seeds into a shot glass of distilled water for 12 hours and then switched to paper towels for an additional 12 hours. I then planted them in the final container before the tap root was exposed in an attempt to do as little damage as possible. I will update this post with pics every weekend.
Cheers!

Mistakes are how we learn, so nothing wrong with that and experimentation. On the flip side, it would probably be the smart play to try and not do too much with the plants since it's your first grow. Get some semblence of a basic routine. Don't be over handsy until you garner more experince.

Welcome and good advice all round. Hit me up if you want to know what not to do.

Welcome! I'm on my first grow as well, so I don't have any advice or experience to pass on...but I'll wish you luck and look forward to your updates!

Thanks for that reminder! The main reason I was intrigued with the autopots system is so that I can go with a more hands off approach. I do have a tendency to love my projects to death if you know what I mean. Personally, I would like to fim at the 3rd node and then keep my hands off as much as possible, but I've seen how tall some of these Mazars can get, and with only 5 feet of vertical height, minus 3 feet for pot height, light and ventilation, and the space between the light and canopy leads me to believe I'm going to have to start training them as soon as possible to keep them around 24". This worries me in that I don't have the experience to know exactly how much bending the branches can take at different stages of plant life. I'm also a little concerned about how well the bungee style trellis netting will keep the branches trained to grow horizontal or if there will be too much elasticity and I'll also have to use plant ties. Defoliation also worries me so I will tuck whenever possible and keep it simple at no more than a leaf per plant per day until I see how they're responding. In addition I planned this grow over a year ago but work took me overseas where growing wasn't an option, so these seeds have been kept over a year. I selected the 2 darkest seeds because some were much lighter than the rest but none broke when pinched. Those are some of my concerns that influenced the planning of this grow.
