I'm always havin to re-learn "the perfect is the enemy of the good," and "show the slightest preference for this or that, and heaven and earth become infinitely far apart." My fortune cookie wisdom for the day...and I'm already hungry again.
Feel like I oughta re-post cuz I've since discovered root rot and b/c I've learned that my air supply was insufficient for the res. Dunno whether this has anything to do w/ anything, so caveat emptor.

Yeh root rot is a bitch...what i have learned over time is to let the roots search for it, let the soil or whatever your growing in dry out,(not completely dry)the plant will tell you when it wants a drink, but a key thing is to have a nice root ball, alot of growers say to do the finger test if its dry water it, but the bottom of your pot could be still soaking wet and most likely the tap root will go straight down instead of forming a root ball,i find by watering from the outside in but stopping a few inches from center, its allowing the roots to search more for the water the roots will head to side of the pot, if your in a fairly large pot to start, you can over water very easily...a good tool to invest in is a moisture meter then you can really see how wet it is at the bottom of Davey jones locker.
It's DWC Bonwigs, but thx. Not sure why I decided to start this way--guided by spirits it seemed, just came with the decision to grow. Never even thought of soil. I think they'll be ok. Learning curve and all that, I caught it early, have plugged the leaks in the system (extra air, closed light leaks, took water pump [read heat] out). Now we'll see how they do in a proper environment. May be a bit stunted but that's fine. Cheers
