Learning more post-harvest

Short version. Got sick last year, maybe covid maybe something else, who the hell knows. Have had issues with chest tightness since then. Finally went to Dr this weekend and he thinks I've developed asthma as a result of whatever happened. Makes sense as my major issues develop around allergies and exertion. Point is, I'm not longer touching a joint or vape due to sheer panic of what that feeling feels like.

So, while my wife is able to use the flower just fine, I am looking to use some of the flower to make it usable for myself. The only thing that seems to be is edibles but then what is the best way to approach that? How much flower should i expect to use to make enough so that I can use something 1 each night for sleep?

Not sure where to look first to get in to this part or what exactly to search for for that matter.
 
Dosing can be a little tough at first, and even with recommendations, I'd urge you to move slowly! What works for me leaves many in the couch sweating and feeling ill...

But... I press my flower and mix the rosin into either butter or oil after decarbing. With the rosin I figure approximately 600 milligrams of thc per gram (60%) and mix in enough so that a dose is around 50 milligrams. Now my 30 year old daughter, any more than about 10mg and shes a giggling mess.

Start low and work up. On the occasion my dad has had to use edibles at night for sleep he's had several mornings after where he was pretty high till mid morning or so.

Doses in dispensaries seem to start around 3mg then 5 then 10. At least around here, so I'd say that's a pretty fair starting point.

Working with flower is a little more difficult to calculate dosing, at least for me.

You obviously need to decarb any material to use for edibles
 
Thanks guys! Completely failed to see the extraction sub forum. Good info Arthur, that’s a good point. I’m a sensitive sally so will be sure to go slow when I get going.
 
I have made hot cocoa and popcorn and pancakes etc. With hash in the past, but only last week I got to make my first cookies with my first home grown, I did the decarb in the oven, added the coconut oil and let it finish, drain/filter, cool down and use for cookies the next day :)
 
You could use 190 proof it you don't mind alcohol to extract the oil then decarb it with ccoconut oil etc or honey. Not a doctor not medical advise but I felt like shit stabbing pain in lung and took b12 it doesn't hurt to make sure you have vitamins sometimes lack of vitamins can make you anemic and feel bad. I felt like that before it sucks feeling like you can never vape again chemicals would make.me short of breath perfumes etc. You want cyanocobalamin for b12 not then cyanide bound cheaper one most vitamins are cheap synthetic versions of the real thing that's found in plants. Also noticed my lungs didn't work as much as they used to if I didn't exercise

I use Tincture of Indica for insomnia and dose according to amount of sleep required, 4-6-8hrs., and next days activities.
If I've got an AM golf game, not more than 10mg/thc dose. As @Arthur mentioned, too much and you're still groggy/high
for hours after you wake.
