Problem: Leaf tips curling horizontally on all plants, all ages

Medium/grow method: Happy Frog soil with added perlite/vermiculite

Feed: and supplements used: This problem occurs when plants are young before any nutes are given (except Roots Excelurator Gold) and it continues on new growth for the life of plant.

water source: Tap that’s been bubbled for 48 hours.

Strain/age: All plants at all ages are doing this.

light used: VIPARSPECTRA Reflector-Series V600 600W LED Grow Light at various heights - two lights one in flower tent and one in veg room. Lights are on 24/0

Climate: indoor tent and 30’ X 30’ room. Temps 75-80F RH 45-55 but RH is most often around 48.

Soil PH is 6.5 according to Accurate 8 ph meter

Hi all. First grow here. All of my plants are doing this curling thing to some degree. I feel as if it's a humidity issue but my humidity isn't so far off that it should cause this problem so maybe it's my lights regardless of what height I put them at??

I honestly don't know and would appreciate some input.

It doesn't seem to cause much of a problem but I am curious what this is caused by.

Thanks !!

:toke:..other plant is fine? I need normal light pics, but I do see some lighter patches interveinally, could be the start of some nute defc.,... curling might be related, or not,.. it it did it from the start, likely it's genetics,... watch and wait, see hwo she grows, it may correct too!

@Waira Thank you for looking. I am still curious about the curling leaf issue which is happening on 3 out of 4 plants but after taking my variegated plant ( the most affected by the horizontal curling) out into the daylight it appears that I have numerous issues going on with this one plant. It's a good thing you made me take her out of the blurple zone or I'd never have seen any of it.
Before you ask, (I've read every thread in the infirmary LOL) so I know this is coming.........

Here is the nute schedule she's been on
October Calendar.jpg

She has been highly variegated since birth but the next picture is not how that shows. None of the current pictures will look variegated because she has mostly grown out of that. The variegated places tend to look waxy now but they are green. What I see here, and it occurred just on this one leaf looks like a deficiency...well hell, what do I know, you tell me :p

And THEN I see this. Brown patches that occur in the upper 2/3rds of the plant only. It's only on like 4 leaves but it's disturbing !

And finally, the twisted leaf issue. You will see some nute burn on numerous leaf tips but many leaves are actually twisted over horizontally on the tips. The underside is much lighter green so from a distance you might mistake it for nute burn.

I appreciate the help. This is my first grow and I have no idea what to do about any of this ( now that I see it ).

She is a Nirvana AK48 auto. I have another of the same that is doing just fine. The variegated plant is the same age but is at least 2-3 weeks behind in growth and flowering. Both are under same lights, same nutes cept for Tiger Bloom which this plant has only had 1/4 dose of, one time since she is early in flower.

The light is currently 20 inches from her top, and last week it was 24 inches above her. She's on the early bloom growth spurt.

All of these photos are of the same plant.

Hi Lucy ~ I’m brand new to growing myself, about 5 weeks into my first grow. I compared the leaves in your pic to the leaves in this chart I found in another thread. It looks suspiciously like the late stage potassium deficiency example. I don’t know if that’s accurate or even what you would do to fix it, so I’ll keep an eye out and see what others say. I love your calendar ... what program are you using?

:greenthumb:- that's the data that matta'!
... good on the A8 reading...
... some of these oddities/mutations also carry other liabilities, like funky growth, poor performance, nutrient sensitivity or something faulty with their metabolism, etc.,.. this one might be touchy with nutes, or a Ca hog,...
... OK the nutes! ...Big Bloom is really a supplement IMO,....look at the tiny NPK#'s, in the decimals so this isn't a very effective "fertilizer", it's far too weak and incomplete... it is however good stuff! Use that at full strength w/o worry....You might be getting some early P and maybe K defc., not unusual now that she's blooming, and the Tiger inputs have been low, and Grow isn't very rich in them (which is fine during veg')..... when did the tip burn show? it's not always a sign of nute burn, some straight defc.'s can start like this too,... Might be time to up the Tiger!
... the big spots look more P defc. to me than Ca, though they can overlap in symptoms sometimes... do you know if you have hard water (high CaCO3 content)? Do you have a TDS/EC meter? I see the pH creeping up, and hard water can do this after a while,... also, when you take reading with the A8, you can't get a good read if you do it after fertilizing, that temporarily skews the readings; gotta do it a day after,... Other A8 tips: soil should be pretty moist, but not soggy, nor any kind of dry,... it should sit for a minute+ to stabilize,... wipe clean after each use with a damp paper towel or something, ditto before storing... buff the tip before use after it was stored,.. tarnishing/corrosion will muck readings as well! The moisture meter built in can be handy, you can make up a dummy pot and test it at various stages of dryness to get familiar with what the numbers really mean ....
... the edge curls might have been from light intensity, though you distance is fine now,... nothing to do there but watch for progression, if any, but they won't correct though.....

@Waira the tip burn happened at the first feeding when the plant was 21 days old. It was a 1/4 dose of Grow Big. Perhaps too early since I am using Happy Frog soil? More likely that she just burns easier since the other plant did not burn from this and never has.

I do not have a TDS/EC meter. I kinda thought I didn't need one because I grow in soil which buffers decently. Is that wrong thinking? It must be wrong or you wouldn't be asking lol. Can you recommend a good one?

I have town water and do not know the parameters of it. I will try to find out.

Thank you for the tips on using the accurate8 meter. I was wondering about all of those things, now I know.
The PH on this one plant is creeping up and I don't know why. I am giving more nutes but those should lower it, not raise it no? Ph is up to 7 on just this one plant.

This is what I have done this past week in response to the symptoms. Is this ok? Should I up the dosage and reduce the frequency? I read somewhere that nutes added to soil don't uptake for like 7 days, is that true?

Does the manufacturer recommend feeding that often? If anyone can help you it is waira , hes just good like that. But it does take a bit for enough nutes to get in to burn.

No they recommend twice per week. I put today's nutes on the calendar but I haven't given them yet and if I don't then it would be twice this week.
I am just basically panicking at this point LOL and was going to hold off on today's feeding for another 8 hours in the hopes that someone might tell me whether I should or not.

It isn't that I can't follow directions but I don't pay much attention to manufacturer's schedules because if I followed them all of my plants would be fried to a crisp and possibly even dead by now.
Of course this is how I ended up here in the infirmary in the first place so........:p

Hahaha, no need to panic! It's all going to be good. If they are due for a feeding I would feed. How are they looking now?
