Jean-O's Show Grows 2024 Jean-O's Genetics : Devils Lettuce Photo/Fem F1

End of week 4: Just a touch past day 28. Lots of growth this week. The Devils Lettuce had a slow start but DL #1 is currently the tallest in the tent! Topped all the plants around day 25. The last week is a bit of a blur due to illness. I did a very light defoliation. The fan leaves are huge and were blocking the new node branches creating condensation. I removed 4 fans from each plant.

These plants are hungry. I stepped up the strength carefully from 60% to 80%. Everyone was looking a bit pale so I increased to full strength and yet the runoff ppm were still below input. I have now increased to 125% strength.

DL#1: Currently Day 30-

Since last update at day 21 - Significant decrease in runoff. Increased frequency to almost everyday feed/water

Fed on Day 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30

Day 24 increased feed to 100% : 895ppm
D24: 615ml in : <10ml out
D25: 615ml in : 490ml runoff @670ppm
D26: nothing given
D27: 615ml in : <10ml out
D28: 615ml in : 241ml runoff @732ppm
D29: 615ml in : 133ml runoff @802ppm

Runoff still below input ppm so increased strength on Day 30 to 125% - 1085ppm

D30: 615ml in : 111ml runoff @888ppm

DL#2:

Fed on Day 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30

Day 24 increased feed to 100% : 895ppm
D24: 615ml in : <10ml out
D25: 615ml in : 425ml runoff @681ppm
D26: nothing given
D27: 615ml in : <10ml out
D28: 615ml in : 122ml runoff @834ppm
D29: 615ml in : 60ml runoff @1020ppm (high!)
D29: additional 615ml in : 425ml runoff @754ppm (back on track!)

Runoff still below input ppm so increased strength on Day 30 to 125% - 1085ppm

D30: 615ml in : 137ml runoff @910ppm

End of week 5: Both plants doing well and DL#1 is still the largest by far. Volume, frequency, and nutrient strength increased significantly.

DL #1: Currently day 36 - Definitely the hungriest plant and using the most water. Had a second light defoliation. Removed 4 large fan leaves again as they were blocking the newer branches and causing condensation.

Since last update: Feed strength increased to 125% on D30 (1085ppm)

D30: 615ml in : 111ml runoff @888ppm

Increase frequency to 2x a day, AM/PM 615ml
D31 AM: 161ml runoff @863ppm
PM: 186ml runoff @775ppm

D32 AM: 151ml runoff @955ppm
PM: 233ml runoff @820ppm

D33 AM: 40ml runoff @1240ppm
PM: 105ml runoff @900ppm

Significant decrease in runoff volume, increased AM volume to 850ml:

D34 AM: 850ml input - 220ml runoff @1045ppm
PM: 615ml input - 85ml runoff @955ppm

Increased nutrient strength again due to runoff ppm staying below input strength - From 1085 to 1230ppm (150%), increased volume to 850ml AM/PM.

850ml in @1230ppm 2x a day:

D35 AM: 290ml runoff @1130ppm
PM: 160ml runoff @1175ppm

D36 AM: 90ml runoff @1475ppm
PM: 136ml runoff @1300ppm

Increasing volume to 1 Litre AM/PM going forward, nutrient strength staying at 1230ppm (150%)

D35 AM: 150ml runoff @1215ppm
PM: 241ml runoff @1160ppm

D36 AM: 170ml runoff @1333ppm
PM: 245ml runoff @1225ppm

(Tag should say DL #2 - guess I missed that one!)

End of week 6: Day 42, full end of week 6. Light schedule has been flipped to 12/12. The last week of watering saw an increase in volume from 850 to 1500ml AM & PM. PPM did get a bit high a couple of days so it looks like the 150% strength was just a bit high.

I haven't any solid numbers as the plants got moved to a pump/reservoir system. I need to be out of town for a few days so I set up the system ahead of time.

However, at the flip I moved the plants to a Bloom Transition nutrient mix. Using the Jack's line up I add equal parts A, Epsom, Bloom, and B. Went with 3g/gallon of each and ended right at 1330ppm. Just slightly stronger than the previous nute strength but these are getting a bit more volume with the pumps.

Once 4 days of the transition blend is in I move them to the full Bloom product for 5-7 days and then back to the original formula.

DL #1 - still the star of the show

wk6.JPG

I pushed one of the branches out of the way, you can see how dense it is in there! Did a light defoliation to remove any of the leaves that were overlapping and causing condensation. Removed some spindly shoots as well.

End of week 7: Day 49. Lights were flipped on Day 42/43.

Going into flowering I made a transition nutrient batch. Adding in the Jacks Bloom product to the standard A/Epsom/B at a rate of 3g/gallon of each. Came to ~1320ppm and was run for just a couple days. That was followed by the full Bloom mixture.

Transition mix: 3g/gal A/Epsom/Bloom/B : ~1330ppm
Bloom mix: 5.65g/gallon Bloom and 1.1g/gallon Epsom salt

I ran the Bloom mix at 6x, 33.9g Bloom and 6.6g Epsom - ~1200ppm

Bloom mix has been run for approxmately 6 days and the Jacks recommendation is 5-7 days. That plus the couple of transition days should be sufficient. I currently have signs of flowering starting and the plants are being moved back to the standard blend at 125% strength.

DL 1: Massive plant. These are just the main tops sticking up above allllll the other plants.

Long post, apologies.

Ok so after a bit of futzing about I've decided to update with total flowering time so it might be easier to follow along rather than Dxx - Flowering week x : odd day number.

Nute schedule: Moving into flowering I am changing the nutrient mix a bit. Jacks makes a product called "Finish" that is supposed to be used on it's own the last two weeks of flowering. I've not had good luck with it so I am taking a stepped approach this time.

Flowering schedule:

Wk 1/2 - Regular 100%
Wk 3 - One part Finish, 3 parts 100%
Wk 4/5 - Two parts Finish, 2 parts 100%
Wk 6/7 - Three parts Finish, 1 part 100%
Wk 8/9 - Finish only
Wk 10 + : Not sure yet!

Flowering: Week 4 -Day 1: Total day count : 66
Been struggling with high ppm runoff after coming off of the reservoir. Been giving lots of extra volume but they are persistent. Plant must be exuding something from the roots, probably looking for a nutrient change which is inbound starting Day 60.

Here's the breakdown for the last week:

Devils Lettuce #1 -D59: Week 3 D1: Beginning of adding flowering nutrients. 2 litres AM/PM, most AM watering is at 7 and PM is 9.

Last day of regular 100% strength nute mix
D59 AM: 215ml runoff @1420ppm
PM: 705ml runoff @1300ppm

Adjustment to nute mix: Addition of "Finish"

Finish 1:
4 gallon batch of nutrients: 1 part Finish and 3 parts regular 100% mix.
100% : 3.6g Part A, 1.3g Epsom, 2.4g Part B
Finish: 5.42g F, 1.1g Epsom
Total blend: 10.8g A, 5g Epsom, 5.4g Finish, 7.2g B
Final ppm has been consistently: ~880 +/- 5ppm

D60 AM: 220ml runoff @1400ppm
PM: 756ml runoff @1306ppm

D61 AM: 3L in 1233ml runoff @1371ppm
PM: 918ml runoff @1157ppm

D62 AM: 430ml runoff @1286ppm
PM: 1503ml runoff @1259ppm

D63 AM: 386ml runoff @1269ppm
PM: 1346ml runoff @1287ppm

D64 2L AM + 1L @1PM: 232ml runoff @1432ppm (thirsty bastard!)
PM: 1110ml runoff @1489ppm

D65 2L AM + 1L @1PM: 502ml runoff @1402ppm
PM: 1260ml runoff @1400ppm

Start of week 4: Day 66: W4:D1 - Nutrient adjustment:

Finish 2:
Now adding two parts of "Finish" with 2 parts of 100% regular blend.
Total mix: 7.2g A, 4.8g Epsom, 10.8g Finish, 4.8g B
Final ppm: ~865 +/- 5ppm

D66 AM: 1158ml runoff @1378ppm
PM: 474ml runoff @1251ppm

I pulled the plants out for a significant defoliation and removal of lower stems. I somehow forgot to snap a pic of DL#1 on it's own. It's in the back with the tallest and thickest stemmed colas. Absolute monster.

8pm : 1.5L in - 162ml out @1348ppm
11pm: 1.5L in - 1177ml out @ 1236ppm

Adjustment to nute mix: Addition of "Finish"

Finish 1:
4 gallon batch of nutrients: 1 part Finish and 3 parts regular 100% mix.
100% : 3.6g Part A, 1.3g Epsom, 2.4g Part B
Finish: 5.42g F, 1.1g Epsom
Total blend: 10.8g A, 5g Epsom, 5.4g Finish, 7.2g B
Final ppm has been consistently: ~880 +/- 5ppm

D60 AM 2L: 530ml runoff @1329ppm
PM: Mistakenly added all fertigation to this one, 4L in. - runoff at 1075ppm

D61 AM: 533ml runoff @1188ppm
PM : 568ml runoff @1207ppm

D62 AM: 848ml runoff @1286ppm
PM: 1503ml runoff @1259ppm

D63 AM: 220ml runoff @1364ppm
PM: 1611ml runoff @1230ppm

D64 2L AM + 1L @1PM: 556ml runoff @1342ppm (thirsty bastard #2!)
PM: 1492ml runoff @1281ppm

D65 2L AM + 1L @1PM: 1017ml runoff @1235ppm
PM: 1395ml runoff @1197ppm

Start of week 4: Day 66: W4:D1 - Nutrient adjustment:

Finish 2:
Now adding two parts of "Finish" with 2 parts of 100% regular blend.
Total mix: 7.2g A, 4.8g Epsom, 10.8g Finish, 4.8g B
Final ppm: ~865 +/- 5ppm

D66 AM: 550ml runoff @1245ppm
PM: 843ml runoff @1200ppm

Shoot! I am so sorry @Jean-O ! I missed two weeks of updates. Busy time around the house and too many guests to sneak off for any length of time.

Well.....

Day 86 - Week 6 day 6 of flowering.

Devils Lettuce has taken over the entire tent. The colas are huge, long, and the front plant is being held up by the tent door. A difficult proposition to take some photos. However! They look absolutely great. I would advise anyone trying this strain to cut veg time to at max 4 weeks. These plants are massive.

Nute schedule is simply 2 parts regular 100% Jacks and 2 parts Finish. Moving to 1 part reg and 3 parts Finish tomorrow. PPM in is 820-865, fertigating 4-6L per day to keep runoff PPM below 1200.

As you can see the Devils Lettuce has absolutely crushed the BrainDamage.

So when you say you’re using 125 or 150% of Jacks do you mean you’re increasing the 321 to be a little heavy?? Does that work well or do you end up burning the ladies? If so how long do you run them like that? Sorry if it’s readily available and I just missed it.
