ok heres the deal, Ive got a 4X4X7 grow tent, that im going to be lighting with a 1000 watt hps in a few weeks.(when my seedlings get big enough) because its gonna be hot around here within the next couple months, Im gonna be cooling the room that my tent is in with a window a/c unit, and i have central air. With that said, normally, i have two holes in the ceiling(intake, exaust) and they circulate my attic air to cool the hps. once my ladies get stinky, however, im gonna have to use a carbon filter, so one of the holes wouldnt be necessary. now that its getting hot, if i use a carbon filter, basically im just gonna be sucking the cold stinky air through that and waste it by cooling the attic. so my idea is that im just gonna suck it through the carbon filter, then through my 1000 watt reflector, then out of the tent back into the cool room. Does that make sense to anyone? will it work? has anyone done this before? the only reason why i dont think that this will work, is that im not sure how fast the hps will heat the air running through it, and i dont want to a/c and heat the room at the same time..will the a/c control this? im a first time grower and am not sure what to expect from this 1000 watt..! please help cuz i cant afford to have my block stink up!

oh yeah, and the exaust fan is 720 cfm..the guy at my hydroponic store says that ill need one this powerful to cool the 1000 watt, but it just seems too powerful to me..any thoughts on that as well?

I think I just fig'd it out! Instead of just carbon filtering through exaust, Ill scrub the air by simply recirculating it within the grow room. I never even new that this was an option, and the guys that just sold me all my equipment a month ago basically told me "sorry bro, but your just gonna have to shut down for the summer..what assholes, i just spent a grand there, i guess they just wanted my money.

Yeah, you can use a fan smaller than that on a 1k and you got some useless assholes at your shop. Your description is really, really confusing. Is there any way you can post a picture of your setup so we have a better idea of what's going on?

absolutely, ill post pics later today..thanks for confirming that about the guys at that hydro store, i figd that, but needed confirmation..i went and bought all my nutes and soil, and t5's from another one that was very professional and helpful, i just wish that i had bought all the "expensive" stuff through them too.

I think you will have to exhaust the air coming from your cool tube to the outside or your attic like you say.If you exhaust into your room its like having your furnace and air conditioning running together which to me makes no sense, and your air conditioner will be running more than it should and adding to your elec bill.

you can get a cool tube for the hps light suck air through the carbon filter and push it through the cool tube which will lead to the attic if this makes any sense..

You've got a couple options. You can use one fan to draw air from inside the room, through your intake, then your carbon filter, your light, then back into the room. The A/C will cool it so that you're basically running the same temp in the room as in the tent. With two fans you can use one to draw air from outdoors, through the light and then into the attic. The second fan will draw from inside the tent, through the carbon filter and back into the room. The second method should save you a little on A/C costs but you'll need to buy that second fan and some extra ducting.

Muddy is so right. If you don't seriously think about cooling then the alternative is to shut it down in the summer months of July and August. It is more expensive to cool a room than it is to heat it as many of us have found out.

Five years ago everyone would be talking about buying a metal hallide 1,000 watter. My goodness they were bright. I hardly ever here anyone using them or recommending their use unless they have access to cheap cooling like in a mine shart. You could bake cookies under them. I wonder if we will soon see grows with deep well cooling to operate in July and August?

I wont answer your question but for me this is the first time I will have a grow indoors during summer. Here we get temps about 25c daytime and some days high as 30. What my plan is to have lights off during 12.00-18.00 and also add an portabel AC if needed.

I have my tent in my kitchen so I have cold morning sun for about 3-4h... then the sun heats my other side of the house. It can get real hot inside so I pray to Jah for some luck!

I dont want to open any window or doors to the balcony because it "screws" my apartments "under pressure". All smelly air goes out in the public stairwell. I use carbon filter but I love to open and look in my tent.

Im growing with 600w HPS and have nice temps as it is now...But I have concerns about how june/july will be :S
