I’m thinking of buying a cheap mini fridge just for my seeds. I messed up and just went crazy with ordering seeds. There is no way I can grow all these out in a year.

Depends on your temps and RH. Its unlikely that it stays constant all year round in the drawer. The fluctuation in temps and humidity is gonna make them use up their energy. So much so that they won't have enough left to germ when you want them to. Or could just die. Most of mine did not survive the drawer storage. Airtight and lightproof in fridge is way better to keep them viable. Even if the fridge gets opened often, still more consistent than no fridge imo.

I like the idea of a fridge designated for seeds but don't expect the Mrs to approve the expenditure lol

You can always send some my way if you have too many :crying:

Rice, or desiccant of some sort to keep constant humidity?
I keep mine in a locking Tupperware, inside a larger Tupperware that's full of rice. Back in the corner of my fridge. But I've also kept seeds in the car for 2 years in the hot Colorado sun and got 100% get rate.

That’s a dry box that they are in (designed for dry storage in a boat) do you think I could keep them in that for air tight? Put the dry box inside of a brown paper bag then into the mini fridge?

Luck was definitely on you’re side for the two years in a hot car lol

That's a good container, but everyone I know uses something to try to fight humidity changes, like rice. Not sure if a 58 boveda humidity pack would be low enough rh.

Going to order some desiccant . I looked for it at Lowe’s yesterday but they didn’t sell it. Also ordering a small mini fridge. Do I need to put the desiccant into my dry box or put it in the ziplock bag that my dry box is in?

All the seeds I purchase come in fully airtight containers, mostly laminated aluminum/plastic film envelopes and/or miniature sealed plastic test tubes. If you further seal these up airtight. light- and water-proof, even just with plastic wrap and/or aluminum foil, that should be all you need in terms of sealing against moisture and air exchange. If seeds are such multiple times well sealed, further use of desiccant is totally unneeded.

In terms of avoiding temperature fluctuations in a refrigerator, just put the container in a back corner and/or bury it under other items. Wherever you store your seeds is probably where you also want to do any longer-term storage of microbial supplements.

Otherwise, I just keep my seeds with their original packing sealed in an opaque glass jar sitting on a shelf in a well temperature-controlled room, wth an air conditioner now always running, and have no problems storing them for up to a year. But yes, refrigeration is best.
