In the first picture that looks like a stamen -- there's the narrow tube ("filament") separating the staminate growth from the stem, which is also shaped like a stamen rather than a bract*, but it has a fuzzy white stigma coming out of it. That particular growth is intersex, but how widespread are stamens through the rest of the plant? If it's just a few at a lower node I'd remove them and see if it grows more, but I'd cull plants where they're appearing throughout.
* Stamens look (American) football-shaped, to me, whereas bracts usually have a more drawn out shape and a pointier end (with stigmas).
