Hello there all at AFN! I have browsed this site for quite some time now but never signed up as I'v found every question I ever had has been answered already (and iv never joined a forum before) but I eventually thought I'd join to thank and compliment the people who don't even know they have helped me (FullDuplex you're the first of many). Not that new to growing, I'v helped set a few friends up and currently grow various herbs, chillies and general veg. As I say though, I am very new to forums (AFN is the proverbial fat gypsy girl who stole my cherry behind the waltzers) so I will apologise now if anything comes across as rude at all as that never will be my intention.
Now that that's all out of the way here's something to entertain you all and tell you a wee something about me:

A fierce highlander is drinking in a pub on Argyle street in Glasgow. Ten pints down and he's just starting his eleventh, when he feels the call of nature.
Dubious of the character of the Glaswegians surrounding him, he takes a beer mat and scribbles on it:
"This pint belongs to the Inverness Heavyweight Boxing Champion"
and places it over the glass.
On his return he sees another beer mat placed on top of his, it reads:
"This pint is now inside the Glasgow Half Mile Sprint Champion!"

:toke: Heres one to getting to know you all in time, Cheers folks.

Cheers for all the messages folks, I feel so very welcome.
Musturd. too true man, well said. When I say I'v helped set a few friends up I mostly do the building side of things, making cabs, tents, wiring etc cos that's where my real expertise lies. I'v never actually had a grow all of my very own but I'm hoping to get something going in the not too distant future and I'm sure there'll be a few areas I can chime in on.

Hey Squid, do I remember reading somewhere you're a drummer? so am I, I'm sure there must be a few of us about.

Here's a wee question to get folk thinking (if this isn't the appropriate place please let me know and I'll shift it). I'v built a few cabs in my time and always tried to time the lights, fans etc with the wee plug in electric timers, these things are great but have their limitations. I have always wondered if it would be possible to computerize this process. Now I'm about as much use with computers as a bawhair in a bar-fight but ultimately I'd like a program that can turn each light or fan on/off independently whenever needed. Record temps, humidity levels, PH etc (maybe even plot a graph but that's probably just too much geeking out) and generally automate most of the process whilst gathering every shred of information possible all in one easy to read and change interface. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or better yet is there anyone who might be clever enough to consider designing such a thing?
Cheers, Megatron.

Welcome aboard bigman, for that kinda kit you might want to look into home automation equipment but it can all be set up to run on it's own using contactors with timers, fan controllers with thermostats and humidistats. Hope yer loaded
