Hi. I'm looking at getting a new light for my 4x4, 6' tall tent. I was wanting to get some quantum boards originally, but they are a bit more than I can afford at the moment.

So, I'm wondering if a 315w cmh would cover a 4x4 footprint, with the right reflector of course. I know hps is a good light as well, but I don't think I would be able to keep the heat under control without AC. Also I want to save money on my electric bill.

A 315W CMH will cover a 3x3 ideally. But you can go with that, why not...

I use mine in an open grow and it's responsible for about a 21/2 by 3 foot area but in a tent with shorter plants you should be good its a quality light. Nice big compact buds. My light has the ballast attached but I think they sell ballast kits now; use your own reflector and save about 150US keeps your tent cooler with the remote ballast

I use a 30 pound cool tube keeps my temps at a perfect 28 with 2 600hps check them out best thing I've bought for my whole tent

Check out cob lights. They work well. No noise, low heat throw, low electrical draw, small and easily moved. www.cobshop.net is where I got my 3500K.

How many would I need for a 4x4 tent?

If I have to pay over $600 I would probably go with a couple of 260w quantum boards

I'm in a 4x4 tent and use one cob per plant. I am growing 4 plants currently. I recently tested two cobs for three plants and that was fine, but I like the 1 to 1 best, though I have 6 cobs in total. I might test two cobs for one plant next run. I also have the reflectors, but didn't use for the test. Wanted more spread.

Ok. I normally grow 3 in there so maybe 4 cobs would be efficient? I've only done auto flowers, but I also want to try photos as well. I know it will take more light
