Just like @LittleMT pointed out, if you do a half decent job growing most of whats you can get your hands on, you will not be disappointed. sure there are some super sticky and tough plants with awesome genetics that really stand out, but with all the variety, i would look for strains that for some reason or another peak your interest. I just bought some humboldt. my first plant was Ghost Train Haze from Rare Dankness, after that i went the cheap route and got me some seeds for less than $3 a pop, those didnt disppoint either and allowed me to have a huge variety of different strains. I added mephisto to the mix, also very nice and solid.
but, if you are a shitty grower most of these will fail. I feel like i have had most the issues one could have. Pests, temps, humidity, light, light leaks, over water, under water, all of this will affect your outcome and yield. regardless of how forgiving these plants are its up to how good of a job you do tending to them. They might grow well outside, but inside in a closet the environment is not very hospitable and you have to make up for it.
so with that said, see what spikes your interest, whether the genetics are all the rage or not, the outcome most likely will be a good one if you look after them!
