Hello AFN,

I have been looking for ways to stabilize PH in my res, so when i fill up my dwc buckets (or rdwc) to have a Stable Ph of 5.8 (or whatever).

Many growers will tell you to adjust ph after you add nutes to 5.3 (just a guess) and let it swing up to 6 (or 6.2) and then re adjust....

Other growers have said to use aquarium buffer to treat the water...

Today im going to share a new method i learned and i would like to hear some opinions from experienced members of the forum.

So, LETS SAY we are using 4 buckets of 20 litres capacity x 15 litres fill capacity in each bucket as our DWC system. This means we need 60 litres to start with 4 plants.

The idea is to use a big bucket to pre-treat your water (with nutes) that your are going to start using in a few days which will have a STABILIZED PH of 5.8 (or whatever your prefences)

So we start with 60 litres of water in the big bucket, which in my occasion, im using 1/3 tap water (EC 0.9 PH 8.5) and 2/3 RO water from my system. In this way i buffer my RO water from EC 0 to EC 0.3.....But before i do this i let my tap water dechlorinate and after i make the mix. Like this i fill up the big bucket with 60 litres of water.

So...Now that we have our water available, we add the nutes, in this case we want a light feed because we dealing with seedlings. So we add a light feed of our nutes to the bucket to reach the desiarable EC level, ok?

Here we start the treatment of the water, to have it ready in a few days to go into our dwc buckets with a STABLE PH....

Now its time to add our ph down solution (Nitric for VEG, Phos for Flower) and lower our PH to 5.8 (or whatever). And we live it with a pump working on a timer periodicaly during the day and night to keep our solution and water mixed well and aerated.

The next day (after 24h period) we check the ph and we use our ph down agent to bring the ph back to our desirable level, for me its PH=5.8

We repeat the processfor the next day, and the next day...Usually it takes upto 4 days...Then one day you will see that the PH is stablized!!!

We now have stablized ph water to start our seedlings....

From here you can continue to have big buckets in your grow room with STABLIZED ph for any occasion....

For example:
-1 big bucket, aerated, with PLAIN stabilized water (to use when you dont want to add nutrients in your dwc buckets)
-1 big bucket, aerated, with PH stabilized NUTE water (at the desirable EC level) to use when plants are eating and EC level is going down...
-1 big bucket, aerated, with Plain Water with PH 8-8,5 (house water) to fix any ph drifts downwards from your desisable ph in dwc bucket with he plant

So guys...Since i havent read anywhere else this method, Whats your opinion? Will this work?

Knowledge is power my friend I grow in autopots but lots of folks grow with dwc @Mañ'O'Green @MedGrower @Rwg111 I tagged a couple for you my friend

Hey Tom. Im currently starting out as new in the DWC. Been doing soil grows the past year. But too much mess with the acidic soils they have here...Will give the hydro a push and see in the future.

lots of decent growers on here who can help you get that running real nice also i think @davisgirl may run dwc also nice to meet you my friend if you need anything just tag me

I think something like this might work. I've noticed that after a week of working with my tap water, it is very stable but it definitely takes some days before it isn't always rising.

Try it with 10litres. Bubbles+water+nutes+ph down

There is a break point tho. After the 3rd day watch it a little bit because if you go more down on the desired ph level you gonna stuck there. But you can add plain ph 8 water or ph up.

If you think about it there are companies selling multi thousand dollar machines called ppm & ph doser.

They are even mixing nutes after ph down or up in the reservoir.

It looks like the philosophy of using ph adjuster last in your mixing feeds is just a myth

If you read in my Thread about DWC basics you will see that what you are doing is precipitating some of the calcium carbonate from your tap water. This is what is helping to stabilize the RO/Tap mix you are using. The thing is this only stabilizes it prior to the root involvement in the PH balance. Roots from the plant exude enzymes and chemicals that can dramatically change the PH in the reservoir. It can do this in a very short time frame and the PH swing can be as high as a couple of full points. I have gone from 5.8 to 4.3 overnight. Stabilizing is good and it will help a lot but it is not a substitute for continual monitoring of your PH and the appropriate adjustments to keep it in range.

This is very informative. I guess as long as the ph unbalance from the root zone to the up scale it is managable.

Can you link me the thread here please. It will be nice refer link for the grow.

I had a seedlin in soil. 6 days old. Washed it and baptized it in the water solution i prepared. Now its in tje bucket. My first dwc bucket!

If it survives until the morning it might have a chance.

The water is barely touching the root. The root is under the net pot by 2 inches almost.

Water temps 19-20C

2 air stones from a 12l per minute pump

200ppm water base plus 200ppm micro+grow genesis mush nutes (500 ppm scale)

Ph'ed to 5.5 and this added 20 ppm

Total 420 ppm

Fingers crossed
