Grow Mediums How to make your own mini DWC set up

Where does everyone buy their hydro supplies? I've been buying from Amazon primarily. I did find a good source for plastic buckets. I've bought a number of different buckets from usplastic!com Does anyone have an opinion about grommets vs bulkhead fittings. I bought some 1/2" grommets to build some bubble buckets but I can't imagine they don't leak eventually. The bulkhead fittings I have are nice but a lot of work and money. Any thoughts?

I find its all trial and error, I keep a log of everything I do. Im going off what I did on my last grow as I got good results from cream of the crop so sticking to that. ( and maybe change a couple of bits )

Hey guys ,quick update on this thread started a long time ago now .Here is the same mini DWC set up working a few weeks ago on my current grow ...testing SourDMango's from NW's collection using new HS1 LED's

All 3 turned out to be girls & are now in full size buckets & a 1.2m tent using 150w ...here's the biggest girl a few days ago & 47days old

Just came across this and though the DWC boys would love it..... http://www.o2grow.com
Hey TaNg,
just looked at those emitters. If only i could only try one out!! I'm having the perfect problem to test this. I looked at all their products and saw on 2 offers that the lifetime usage was 1600 hours. If you run it all the time then that's like 67 days. I wonder if it would be worth the cost? I REALLY like the technology behind it though. Can't wait to hear what others think.

What's most confusing is there are 999 different brands and formulas, and you can end up spending way too much money on nutes if your a begginer. I, for my DWC grow, decided to follow the KISS principle, I kept it simple. I'm using only 2 products unless I have a reason to add something else. I'm using General Hydroponics Maxi Grow, and all in one powdered formula, and its co-product Maxibloom. Nothing else if I can help it. as far as how much to use? I think too many people way over do it on nutes in DWC. I've been following a pro grower on youtube. He never excedes 650 ppms on his nutes. He grows 1lb.+ per plant on a regular basis in DWC under 1 600 watt Metal Halide lamp! he often exceeds that amount.

So my formula was, no nutes till the first leaves developed. My water has some minerals in it ( tap water dechlorinated ). When the leaves were developed, I added enough Maxi grow to bring the ppms to about 240, roughly quarter strengh. they plants, no mater what age, can only consume so much nutes, its almost impossible t under feed them with the right nutrient product. when the second set of leaves appeared, i raised to level of nutrients to 400 ppms. all I can say is, my girls are doing fine! I'm going to raaise the ppms to 600 today as the fourth set of leaves are appearing and they are starting to develop side branches. I'll beposting new pics shortly.

Anyway, this is only my theory on DWC, I'm sure others have different approaches that will work fine too! I just wanted the simplest approach for my first grow.

Damn str8 Pop. I am not a pro, but I have yet to go over 700 PPM. I don't see the point, you can not force feed a plant more nutrient. There are only a few minerals that a plant will store up. No matter what, it will not grow better-faster-stronger because you add nutes past some point. It is what it is. It's easier to get toxicity than it is to get deficiencies, if you keep it under 400 for first half of life, and under 700 for second half of life than you eliminate toxicity as a possible problem in your garden.
